Ups and downs

My food was very good with some reservations regarding size of the bone in the lamb shoulder . I understand that pub can't do a lot on this matter, but I have seen better versions. My friends fish was seriously overdone, butter was very dark with strong smell of burned oil. Pudding was excellent.

I went with my family as we live fairly close and Chef and Brewer have taken over this pub. We all had a Sunday roast but the food was dreadful. We had a selection of the different meats. We sent the sirloin back twice, it clearly wasn't sirloin. It was far too chewy and tasteless. We asked if it could... More

Birthday meal out, had steak which was nice. Chips a bit dry but rest of meal was yummy, not the best meal ever had but was what you expect for the price. Service was very good. Would go again

I have to agree with the review below when 9 of us went along to the Shire Horse for Burn's Night supper. It was a shame that there were no veggie alternatives for the set menu - two of the group were told that they could select a main from the standard menu but they would be charged for that... More

We booked a table for the Burns' Night Supper, which was very good 3 years ago. The welcome was poor. We ordered our meals and waited an hour for the first course. Chef was clearly "scraping the barrel" to put our second and main courses together - the venison medaillons consisted of 2 small chunks of meat. This was so... More

Table was booked for about 16 people for dinner . We arrived for 19.30 and we're sat down straight away. Menu's followed about 10 mins late. I had Bubble and Squeak with bacon and an egg on the top . Came out in good time , and was fairly hot. But tasted of nothing! The bacon and egg were ok... More

Good choice of food beer and wine. Service can be slow sometimes but staff do there best. Nice beer garden and some tables in pub that can be dog friendly

Met a friend for lunch...busy time of day. Shame there's not enough staff.Service behind the bar and the food order were very slow! We ordered a January special which was tasty , when it finally came..an hour after we ordered! Location of tbe pub is good and plenty of parking. Just remember not to be starving when you turn up!

This feels like a lovely country pub that I like to go to quiet regularly. The staff are friendly and the food is great :) I have tried several items on the menu and never get bored. This is lively in the summer for the garden area and lovely in the Winster because it's so cosy :)
