Unusual building, generous portions and friendly staff, we would definitely visit again. We discovered it for a late lunch and have been full ever since!

After a couple of days spent exploring the small Sussex city of Chichester, we checked out of our hotel one morning and headed for the train station. It was a do-able walk, even with luggage, and our plan was to stop on the way to have breakfast at The Buttery At the Crypt. This little cafe is located in a... More

Loved this cafe, the food we had was very good and well priced, the service prompt and friendly despite the cafe being very busy (by 12.15 people were queueing at the door).

Excellent food, excellent service highly recommended. A credit to Chichester. Lovely atmosphere in this quaint Crypt type building, the Apple cake which tasted home made was lovely.

We had a cream tea at The Buttery on Monday 22/6. Huge warm scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream. Absolutely divine. Plus a lovely friendly waitress!

Make sure you are hungry when visiting this restaurant. Large portions come as standard! The average price of a meal is approx £8.50 and well worth it. You get a real sense of history as you walk down a number of steps into the crypt. Obviously this is not too good for anyone with mobility difficulties, but there are tables... More

I liked the décor of the place. A friend and I decided to have a spot of lunch. my fiend ordered a brie and cranberry toastie which was ok, but a bit stingy on the brie. I had a nice fruit scone with fresh cream which I heard was freshly made that morning by the young kitchen porter. friendly service... More

Sunday morning, I was hoping to show to friends, visiting from London, the sights of this fine West Sussex city. We wanted to start with a full English Breakfast. We arrived at the buttery and we were looking forward to eating in this pleasant looking restaurant. However, when the waitress came to take our order, at 1131, we were disappointed... More

Had an hour to spare before catching the train back to London and was pleased to stumble across this lovely cafe/restaurant as I wandered around the grounds of the cathedral. The staff wear traditional 'tea room' uniforms and the conversion to an eatery is sympathetic to the architecture. Well worth a visit.
