This was only our third visit in three years as the menu can be slow to change. We had a pre-diner drink and ordered the Now menu with the accompanying wine flight. Loved course one the Lime Potatoes rolled in oats and spices. Great taste and texture. Third course was salmon which was lovely and fresh. Didn`t enjoy the Remoulade... More

I booked this place because my partner want to go for their birthday celebration! The service us perfect and most certainly worth the 12.5% service charge! The waiter explained the food perfectly to us and told us what to expect! We asked them to recommend some wine and though that they would recommend the most expensive on the list! To... More

We traveled from Southampton especially to dine at Purnell's as part of our first anniversary celebrations and we were not disappointed! The restaurant manages to be modern and lively whilst still ensuring a relaxed and romantic setting. The staff were all friendly and accommodating and had a good understanding of the food, explaining each course as it was served. Although... More

Went for the Now menu on Saturday for a friends birthday, it was simply superb. The food is gorgeous, inventive and just has to be tasted. The service was marvellous and the surprise dessert provided by the kitchen a wonderful treat. Thank you all and also for Glynn who signed a copy of his book for our friend Brian. We... More

......meals we have had in a while. After several disappointing experiences in supposed good places in the past few months, this (and a trip to the Square in London) has rekindled our faith in great british (with a twist) food. We went for the Now menu - a twelve course tasting menu - only had to tweak one course in... More

Had a lunch visit midweek and opted for the 3 course menu. The bread was delicious and all other items nice but not sensational. The beetroot mousse had a great depth of flavour but the plaice was way too salty if you don't over- season your food. Dessert was the nicest part - violet ice cream with strawberries and pieces... Excellent and imaginative in it's presentation and content. The beetroot starter wonderful, the chicken starter a little bland, the plaice beautifully cooked and full of flavour as to was the duck. Desert fresh and again imaginative with it's presentation and flavour. The flight of wines a little expensive so we settled for an excellent 1986 half bottle of one of... More

We have had 2 visits to try the tasting menu and enjoyed both very much. I was less keen on one course first time round, the staff were able to substitute the second time round - no fuss, just a real keenness to ensure we enjoyed the evening.

Read the reviews and decided to eat at Purnell's. The bar area was very busy when we arrived, it was a Saturday night though, but the restaurant was much calmer. Excellent service and really good quality, well prepared food. Difficult to fault!!
