Our booking was for 10pm on a Tuesday, so naturally the place was pretty empty- a couple of parties at the teppanyaki table, but no one at the sushi bar, which is where we were booked for. The kitchen staff looked surprised to see customers that late in the evening, and it was a little intimidating being sat right next... More

Having tried the sushi at Woktastic (near the library) and YO! Sushi, our family of 4 unanimously decided (a rare occasion) that Shogun is our favourite sushi place in Birmingham. The quality is around the same as that of YO! and certainly better than Woktastic, as well as being better value for money than both places at 12.95/pp all-you-can-eat sushi... More

Don't understand why some people complain so much. The place was much nicer than I expected. There was also a huge variety of sushi on the belt when I went there with also lots of stir fried vegetables, tempura, squid rings and noodles as well. There was no sashimi and would have cost £15.85 for 13 pieces but we didn't... More

Lunch time three of us, sat by the sushi belt. Not many people in but the food was freshly prepared. Beautiful sushi, colorful, tasty, fresh ingredients, tempura, squid rings. Good service, smiling staff dressed with beautiful kimono's. we will go again soon.

Went on a Thursday night, the mailbox was quite busy but I wanted sushi as a treat. We were greeted pleasantly and chose sushi over the teppanyaki table. The sushi belt was full, but it Was all the same, only about 6 types of sushi, 3of which with crab sticks. There were 3 other groups already seated, more joined as... More

We had been to Shogun a few times before, but not before it moved to The Cube. Got a sudden urge to eat sushi today, I thought Shogun would at least be better than Woktastic up by the library...How wrong I was... This place had just gone from BAD to TERRIBLE!!! Today is a Saturday so I would expect a... More

Went for teppanyaki option. Rude waitress and little English. Chef performs tricks as he cooks in front of you, maybe to distract you from how terrible the food is. Chose chicken teryaki (£30), received a bowl of salad covered in salad cream ...(looked like the cheap bags of crunchy salad available in supermarkets), then arrived some dry chicken skewers in... I was taken here as a surprise for my birthday, and am really glad we went. I am not a Sushi person and visiting here didnt change my mind at all but the food and experience we did have was an excellent start to my evening. I was a little concerned when the romantic meal I had thought we would... More

I'll keep this as brief as possible...the food - we went to the sushi buffet; it's around £13 a head and the sushi is just ok. Not great but don't expect loads for that amount...HOWEVER...they add a 10% service charge as standard to the bill. As it was a buffet and there is therefore no service (drinks only), we politely... Hubby and I love sushi. We were sorely disappointed when we chose to have a meal together here tho. We though we would go for the buffet so we could try different things. It really was tasteless :( Also, the amount of noise that was coming from the tables opposite as the chefs get everyone to shout needlessly over cracking... More
