Catching up at the 'Anchor'

My first husbands ex second wife (come on, keep up) and I met up at the Anchor for the annual get together we have had over many years (we like to compare notes) As my friend and I are both local we decided to give the Anchor a go - neither had been there for some time as at one... read more

Small group of 4, at 4pm on a Sunday - a few tables taken but could get in without a booking which was good news for us! Great pint of local UBU with a giant yorkie went down very well. Great pub food and good service. Will go again.

Pretty much everything about this place is below average - from the atmosphere and decor, to the service and food. Very disappointing.

Went for lunch on birthday with friend. Asked if I'd book. Why when there were only three covers - the pub was empty? Totally indifferent service. First time anywhere I've been charged extra for mushy peas with fish and chips. What do these eating establishments think they exist for - obviously not for the customer.

Lovely small pub - booking is essential. Great food, well prepared and cooked beautifully. Service was excellent. Ice- cream especially the panna cotta one was superb xxx

We used to eat here regularly about seven years ago but hadn't been for a long time so booked a table for a Friday night. It was quite quiet, don't think we needed to have booked. The staff were really nice and very attentive. The tables, chairs and Mats are old fashioned and dated so is the decor. It hasn't... More

We visited with friends & children. The food was great & friends said the best steak (chilli con carne one), they'd eaten in a long time. I enjoyed the Rhubarb crumble :-) The childrens meals were a fair size & enjoyed by all. The service was great & the staff really looked after us - thank you.

The meal was fine, nothing special but well cooked and fresh. The service was dire. We had to find a person to take our order, having waited for at least 20 mins. (It wasn't that busy ). When it arrived cutlery was dropped on one of our party, luckily the waiter recovered the plate before the food followed the cutlery.... More

We've visited The Anchor many times over the past couple of years and we've never had a bad meal. They've also gone out of their way on a couple of occasions to accommodate us when we've left it a little late to book. Friendly service and the menu is extensive - full of pub classics, there is definitely something to... More
