Good country pub in a cute village

We dined here with friends, a rather large group. It is a cute pub, with lovely beams and stone walls. Well decorated with mirrors and artwork. Parking is easy, and there are swings out in the garden for the children. My only complaint, is it took over an hour to get our meals. It was not a busy... read more

Service is great and friendly. They were more than happy to do smaller portions for children and all of the food was delicious and clearly home cooked. We all thoroughly enjoyed it (even my very fussy youngest son, who devoured his fish with hand cut chips). My other son had the roast duck with marmalade sauce and has declared this... More

Chewy fatty beef, my knife would not cut it, my companion didn't like cabbage so we asked for another veg as the only other veg on the roast dinner was one stick of carrot, five minutes later a dish of more cabbage was brought out with one more stick of carrot. The roast potatoes were rock hard and oozing oil... More

Couldn't fault the service or delicious Sunday Roast at The Granville today. Even asking for a vegetarian roast dinner for Mum was not a problem. We had slow roast belly of pork and the crackling was sublime and the pork melted in the mouth. Roast potatoes were crisp and heavenly and the perfectly cooked winter greens and buttery apple sauce... More

On arrival we were greeted with a smile which always helps start things off well. We were early for lunch about 12:20, we stopped off on the way south from the Dales. The place was empty, another couple come in after a half hour or so but there was not that “locals local” feeling about the place. There were 4... More

A party of five of us that has been visiting Compton Verney went here for a Sunday lunch. It was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the visit. Three of us had roast pheasant while the other two had roast beef. The pheasant portions weren't huge but the potato terrine was amazing. The beef looked really good... More

The two girls on duty in the bar were friendly and helpful but the thing that let it down was the food. We decided that four of us would have the .£12 special and for what it was, it was far too expensive. Three of us had soup and egg, ham and chips whilst I had watercress with salmon and... More

Lunchtime visit picked for its location. Very quiet. Obviously short staffed and though what staff there was were courteous they were fighting a losing battle. Ordered drinks but no diet options - no Diet Coke etc. Chose off the menu but got part of order wrong. Food was actually ok when it eventually arrived. Just getting into discussion when we... More
