Situated in the heart of Stratford upon Avon, 70 yards from Shakespeare's birthplace and 5 minutes from the Theatres, Il Moro is a family run Italian restaurant with a twist. Chef/owner Massimiliano Melis, from the south of Sardinia believes in serving traditional, simple, home-made Italian cuisine but also enjoys the challenge of infusing flavours from his homeland into his dishes. All of our pasta, bread and desserts are hand-made in house, making Il Moro a little bit more than the average Italian restaurant.Within stylish and elegant surroundings, guests can enjoy a glass of prosecco at the bar before dining or weather permitting, a light bite on the roof terrace which affords stunning views across the rooftops of Stratford. Stepping into Il Moro is like stepping into another world - one that is steeped with tradition and has a real authentic feel but is at the same time contemporary and fresh in its approach to food and service.

Another lovely lunch, but why isn't it busier?

We've been here several times and always had an excellent meal with great service, yet Il Moro is always nearly empty. And I honestly don't understand why. The Sardinian food is lovely, the wine list is great, the service is friendly and helpful and the price is excellent. If more people don't... read more

Staff were very helpful and obliging. Indoor temperature was a little on the cool side especially by the windows. Food was acceptable but overpriced as was the wine. Would I go again "NO"

This friendly venue has never let me down. Fresh, clean, good food and great service. Try having 2 starter portions for some variation. Well worth a trip. This restaurant replaced the one across the road for my meetings venue!

You will need your spectacles here - not to see the portions, which are ample, but to read the English translations on the copious menu, which are in tiny font. That being said, you could point to any item on the menu and get a delicious dish of food. We had mussels and clams in tomato broth and wild mushroom... More

A proper Italian restaurant serving fantastic food topped with excellent service. There are not many genuine Italian eateries that are not part of a big chain, but this is genuine.

A Saturday lunch time during the busy Christmas shopping period yet this restaurants was empty except for us and another couple. Normally an empty restaurant is a sign that this is not too popular for one reason or another. Yet we had a great visit. The service was welcoming, professional and friendly. The menu is clearly Sardinian rather than traditional... More

On Saturday we tried to book a table for 6pm. We were told that there were no tables available but we could have a table at 5.30 if we vacated by 7pm. As we were going to a show later we agreed 5.30. From 5.30 to 6.30 we had the restaurant to ourselves. At 6.30 a couple arrived, who had... More

Quiet when we go there around 19.30, but got busier. Just went for one course each. My partner had a salmon, mascarpone and pasta dish, I had chopped walnuts and pasta, 'Maccarones de busa'. Not a heavy meal, portion was just right. Both lovely, gentle tasting. Not being a fish eater, my partner assured me the salmon was lifted by... More

My wife and I came decided to try Il Moro for my birthday earlier this month. The service was excellent; really interesting explanation of the menu and recommendations for wine. The food was much better than we had expected and again, dished were recommended by the waiter. All in all, a really lovely evening. The location is terrible but the... More
