nice change from typical Indian restaurant

Popped in here on visit to Newcastle. Most Indian restaurants in central Scotland serve Northern Indian (punjabi) style food. This was a nice change. Good variety of dishes, excellent service. A bit sweeter than the northern equivalent dishes. Fish curry was excellent.

You may pay a bit more at this restaurant but you get something a bit different. We went for two main courses of fish (Kappayum Meenum Vevichathu) and prawn (Chemmeen Masala) accompanied by the lemon rice and parathas. The plates were clean by the end as the food was exquisite. The De Gras white wine was a good accompaniment and... More

Apparently this is the only outpost out of London. Go. Food is lovely, service is friendly and attentive, and they appear to be one of the few places these days who understand that restaurant music should be in the BACKGROUND. Thank you! Thanks to that I also enjoyed a quiet relaxing dining experience.

We visited The Rasa based on a friend's recommendation and as she's been to India several times I thought it would be worth a try. Maybe we struck lucky with our choices but I really enjoyed everything that I tried. I'm a vegetarian and my colleague is a meat eater so we didn't go for their sample (feast?) menu and... More

Rasa has plenty of helpful staff and service is quick and friendly. The food is well-presented but lacks real depth. For the price there isn't quite a high enough quality and a little MORE food would have been welcome. Presentation IS very good and the pre-starter poppadum and dips array was very eye-catching. The rest of the meal was a... More

Having been to many indian restaurants in my life, I can say this is by far the best Indian restaurant food I ate. Very pricey, but if you can afford it, I surely recommend it. However, the atmosphere is not the most lively and the Indian employees and not the best english speakers. I personally didn't mind as it went... More

This wasn't our first visit to the restaurant and we had a fairly late evening booking having been to a concert earlier that evening. We were introducing two friends to the restaurant and were a little worried that because of our late booking the food may be a little rushed. Far from it, we were taken straight to our table... We went to Rasa on Saturday night for a friends birthday meal. They specialise in food from Southern India so the menu was different to what I have typically come to expect from an Indian restaurant in the UK. The menu wasn't massive but there was a good selection and the descriptions made it all sound amazing! The pre meal... More

Four of us had dinner at Rasa on Monday and it was excellent. Unusually, this restaurant specialises in South Indian cuisine and it is quite different from the normal fare served at many "Indian" restaurants. The menu was not extensive but we all four enjoyed the food very much and the service was friendly and efficient. Give it a try,... More

Southern Indian cuisine, simply exquisite but expensive. We had the sample menu, I tried and loved food I would never normally have ordered. Fish soup, I don't even like fish, but adored this. Looking forward to returning.
