The menu in Panis seemed very inviting, but unfortunately the quality of the food did not live up to the promise. House wine was OK and cheap enough, but if this is typical of the food offer, there is better to be had in Newcastle for the price.
We popped into Pani's for a quick meal before going to a show. The manager took us to our table and we explained that we didn't have much time .The place was quite busy but he said 'no problem', We chose our dishes and were served them in about ten minutes. Popped in for lunch, service was extremely fast. Ordered the Pani's sausage salad with black pudding which was delish. Very reasonably priced and a vast selection of food. Looking forward to returning to try other dishes on the menu.

This restaurant was a great find. The menu was varied, with lots of unusual but authentic items. Our meals and the wine we chose were delicious and the service was friendly and welcoming. The bill was incredibly reasonable for the quality and amount of food and drink we had. Pani's is extremely popular, so it's advisable to book.
There are better Italian restaurants in Newcastle but none have got the buzz of Panis - they do good quality cheap eats, that's served by the maddest crew of authentic italian waiters you're likely to meet outside of Naples.
It's always packed which is always a good sign but not so much where you have to wait for a table...
