Description: Marco Polo is an Italian bistro that is celebrating its 40th year of trading. We are an independent restaurant and locally owed. We offer a wide range of pizza/pasta and consider this to be our bread and butter. However we really come in to our own on the a la carte side of the menu. All our dishes are prepared on site and deliver extremely good value. The restaurant is always busy and has great atmosphere. We can cater for most requests. We take reservations and also hold a number of tables back for walk-in custom. So if you're passing pop in.

Staying nearby in Newcastle, the reviews made this restaurant seem very inviting. We ate on a Friday night, buzzy atmosphere, very nice service but what about the food? The starters were both nice - had mixed bruschetta and vongole in a white wine sauce. The clams and their sauce were lovely but inclusion of butter beans a bit strange. The... More

Popped in for a late meal on a Sunday. It was overly busy but had a nice atmosphere. As we were being seated, a guy on the next table recommended the calves liver dish to my hubby and boy was he pleased he went for it! It looked amazing, coming as it did with mash and green beans - he... More

It's been around a year or so since I'd last visited Marco polo's which was a pleasant experience, therefore a group of us visited for our friends birthday last weekend. Gutted to see they no longer serve potato skins for start. I really fancied a pasta dish, however all meals appeared pretencious - including meats like lamb, game, and even... More

Me and my boyfriend went on a Tuesday lunch time and ordered from the set lunch menu at 2.30pm We had a superb meal. The restaurant was basically empty however this didn't phase us. The set menu was incredible value at £9.95 for 2 courses we had intended to have desert but were too full. We went for the fennel... More

Got to be the best.Italian in Newcastle. We visited again with 2 friends who had not been before and they were very impressed. I chose off the very reasonably priced fixed menu 2 courses for £9.95. I chose the Grilled sardines, pine nuts, raisins, orange & parsley which were excellemt, folowed by Roast guinea fowl, garlic beans & fennel sausage... More

My wife and I were visiting the city for two days so we dropped in at the Marco Polo on spec. We were not to be disappointed. Warmly welcomed and promptly shown to table. Waitress for the evening was very charming, and friendly. My wife and I shared a garlic bread, which had ample garlic cloves. Chose an Italian rose... More

Some good and bad points to this restaurant. Garlic bread delicious with actual garlic cloves! Pear and almond tart to die for. But the main was a bit disappointing. Heavy gnocchi and barely cooked aubergine. There wasn't much gnocchi on the plate either. Cocktails were great but very pricey. Would go again but it's rather expensive for what you get... More

Just had a lovely meal here, very varied menu at reasonable prices. Staff made us feel so welcome for a busy Saturday evening, lively yet relaxed atmosphere and our meals were really tasty. Will definitely be back!

Have been to this eatery three times now with firiends and have not been disappointed. Food is good and service friendly and efficient. Prices are reasonable for the centre of town. Downstairs can feel somewhat cramped and its shame that they no longer seem to take bookings over the phone just online which can be a pain. But its a... More
