My partner decided we would do something different on this day, so we got two tickets to 'The Bright Club' event at The Stand. This was supposed to be comedy for the more intellectual. It was, but this review is not about how funny The comedians were or how smart I am, it's about the food upstairs. After roaming around... More

I've eaten at The Stand about 5 times for dinner over the past 3 years or so and have been really impressed every time. This weekend was no exception- really friendly, attentive staff, an interesting menu and a great atmosphere. A really nice change from the carnage going on in the surrounding streets on a Saturday night! The four of... More

We had an amazing meal - all the starters, mains and desserts were delicious. The Vietnamese Pho had layer upon layer of flavour. The jus (or gravy to us ordinary folk) on the Ox Cheek was ridiculously tasty. And as for the Banoffee Pie, well it had us in raptures - even though we only shared one between four because... More

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch & my 10 year liked the look of The Stand, so we went in!He made an excellent choice - we sat in a quiet corner at the back (which was lovely as town was heaving). The outdoor area looked lovely, but the sun wasn't shining when we arrived. The menu wasn't huge... More

Popped in before going to the comedy downstairs, service and food was lovely - nice portions. Made to feel very welcomed and relaxed.

Visited on a Thursday evening; fairly quiet but nice, relaxed atmosphere. £20 for three courses was very reasonable for the standard of food we received. We both had the ham hock croquette starter, which came with various appley tidbits - tasty and presented very well. The ox cheek main was just amazing - thoroughly recommend. Also had raspberry pavlova for... More

Really enjoyed a Saturday lunch at this venue. Had been told food was very good and the prices reasonable. Both turned out to be true. In a town where there's a lot of bland food warmers the stand bistro really stands out as a warm, friendly and tasty place to eat.

I originally found The Stand after coming for a comedy night and having really enjoyed my time, the service and the food I thought I'd return to eat at the bistro upstairs. My friend and I both enjoyed the food and the service was perfect.
