Albaik, now changed to The Bake (pressure from neighbours to change name?). An EXCELLENT eating experience. The service was prompt, the waiters helping to explain some of the menu options. Good to see the chefs in the open plan kitchen, gives confidence in the authenticity of the meal. Starters and mains (which 4 shared, so we could all taste the... More

I haven't visited this place for over a year, and how it has changed. We were seated opposite the door, so every time customers came in it was freezing cold. We were a party of four, but were seated at a long line of tables which were so close together they were actually touching each other. The food was ok... More

This place used to serve tasty, inexpensive food to a busy crowd, via cute and friendly waiters. Me and my friend got yesterday's cold leftovers, with a handful of boiled lamb plonked on top. It's as if they noticed I had ordered lamb just before sending out my plate. In any case, I can now recommend this restaurant if you... More

I have been going to this restaurant for over a year and have witnessed a sad decline from delicious/value for money to "thank goodness they seated us next to the toilet". Their reputation means they are always packed, but have now jettisoned the once old-world manners for new-school brusqueness.

This restaurant had been recommended to us by family and friends, so we though we would give it a go. Visited on a busy Friday at 7.30, staff were friendly and our table was prepared, but we were right next to the open kitchen so it was very noisy and therefore difficult to hold a conversation with our friends. We... More

No fuss or frills, just excellent food and reasonable prices. You can consume your own alcohol which makes the venue much more appealing as you will want to spend your pennies on the excellent array of dishes. I would recommend getting the set menu and sampling lots of dishes, especially if you are with friends! The staff were helpful and... More

Lebanese food - very tasty and different from the 'usual' restaurant - Chinese, Indian, Italian etc. The location is also different - down Byker Bank near Morrisons. Inside it is bright - no soft lighting or furnishing, so lively and easy to read the menu! Gets very busy - probably worth booking. We went on a Tuesday, 6:30pm. It was... More

Now renamed the less authentic but probably easier to remember "The Bake" this immensely popular restaurant sits under the Metro bridge at Byker. We went on a Friday evening in a large group that was pre-booked and were split over two tables. It was packed when we arrived and there was some wait whilst people finished at the tables that... A simple, no fuss restaurant with delicious, traditional food. It's not the place to go for a romantic dinner for two but If you like mezzes, as we do, then this is the place for you. There is a wide choice and all the ones we tasted were delicious. The prices are reasonable and the service is first class. We like... More
