Relaxed place in basement of shop, freshly ground and brewed coffee from a choice of three different varieties of beans. Home baked fruit scone was superb especially as it was warmed and served with jam.

Only 4 star rather than 5 simply because of our wait. Only one person serving, another expected in later apparently. Coffee (2 varieties selected between us - both Cappuccinos) was lovely, but could have been hotter ?. I know coffee is not boiled, but easy to pre warm cups maybe ?.

Yes very good coffee, different food choices and a cool vibe. Maybe somewhere you'd drop in rather than plan. I say this because it's small and busy so take out might be your only option. We squeezed on a table and if you're cool with that it's worth the effort to go.

Having visiting many Coffee shops in newcastle for many years, Flat Caps has got to be one of, if not thee, best coffee shop in town. Having only been around for 2 years, this little, humble and quality coffee shop is not one that is usually on many peoples radar, and even when it is, that radar will still trump... More

The coffee is superb, the sandwiches and cakes are almost as good. The welcome is always pleasant. It's in an odd place beneath a "hippy" shop and quite small and dark, but still nice to be in.

My wife and I popped in for one of their famous syphon coffees and weren't disappointed! For £8 we shared about 3 medium cups each, amazing value and unreal taste! Certainly the tastiest cup I've had so far! The barista set up all of the equipment and gave us our own mini tutorial. It all added to the excitement! For... More

Visited in Aug 14. Its a little gem of a place, coffee is great, outstanding atmosphere, a barista who knows and loves his coffee. A must visit ! Beats the commercial chains by a mile. Not the easiest place to find, but you will be surprised where it is. Even bought a bag of coffee beans.

First visit to Flat Caps and will definitely be returning. Great coffee and hot chocolate and lovely cakes. It is a bit like stepping back in time when you go down the spiral staircase into the cafe. The only criticism would be the seating. The stools were very uncomfortable and one at our table wobbled so much it looked unsafe!... More

Or anywhere for that matter. Tiny place and you need to through another shop to get to it. The menu is limited but delicious. Sourdough breads and home baked cakes are the order of the day. If you get a chance, try the siphon coffee. You won't get anything like it at Starbucks that's for sure.
