After seeing all those positive reviews, thought i had to try it and expected a lot. Really disappointed, don't know at all why people have been exaggerating so much! I second all those who wrote about the bad atmosphere there. There is just a selection of about 5 toasts for food and what i disliked most is the 'welcome'. The... More

Was expecting something really nice and particular about that place after all the positive reviews. We were very disappointed, cant understand what the fuss is all about. We felt really unwelcomed by the one taking the order. He was really cold and seemed annoyed. Ordering food felt like submitting a report to my boss, according to the expression on his... More

Introduced a friend to the Syphon, which is an experience to behold. Very good coffee, very well done. If you appreciate fine coffee then this is the place for you.

Visited on a busy Saturday in December, at lunch. We had very, very good coffee, good soup and toasted sandwiches. There was a choice of three different guest coffees and it seems that these change almost daily, so you get the chance to try different coffees each time you visit. We will definitely be back. This is so much better... More

Called in here for coffee and light lunch on a Saturday, after recommendation from TA. Very very good coffee and a tasty soup. Cakes looked very tempting, but beyond our capacity, so saved for next visit. This is so much better than the chain coffee places, in every way.

We called in here after a recommendation from a work colleague. It took some time to find but so worth the effort. Down a set of rickety iron stairs, into a small cave like area with a lovely atmosphere, not a great deal on the menu but what was listed sounded delicious. The cappuccino was the best I have ever... Not much needed to be said about this place apart from it serves the best coffee in town. Been here many times and will continue you to do so. Any coffee you get from here will be lovingly made by a seeming expert barista. You literally cannot go wrong. I once visited with my partner who drinks her coffee milky... More

Small indie coffee shop located downstairs beneath a shop called Elula in the city centre. Coffee and fresh toasted sandwiches were delicious. Staff were friendly and the cafe had a good feel. There are not many tables but it never felt crowded.

Gotta say this cool underground cafe is the best coffee place in Newcastle. I've always tried a new roast during my visits and I've never been disappointed once. Also home to great cookies!
