Multi-award winning small coffee shop. The focus is definitely on coffee but we also offer a range of sandwiches, salads, soups and cakes depending on the season. We've built a reputation for doing some of the best coffee in the region whilst also working very hard to make your visit enjoyable with great service too.

Why is this rated so highly by others?? I do not understand

This place is in the cellar to a holistic and tarot shop. It is not easy to find and not signposted. I had high expectations of this place as it has so many high reviews - but I honestly think they must be friends and family as this place is grotty, dark, in need of repairs and the staff were... read more

The coffee is simply great, whatever you go for, but the soups such as sweet potato, coconut and chili are also excellent, nice sandwiches and brownies too. Small dark and hard to find, but worth it.

We popped down to Flat Caps after a visit to Elula gift shop which is above. Unaware that there was even a coffee shop in Elula's basement we were pleasantly surprised. The coffee is simply delicious, puts Costa and Starbucks to shame! As it was our first visit we were thrown a bit by the selection of coffees on the... More

Love this place, amazing hot chocolate and such a cute setting. Soup is also very good and would especially recommend their brownies. Unfortunately not a coffee drinker but all my friends who are rave about it.

One of my ('the') favourite coffee shop in Newcastle. A place worth going that's locally driven and actually has a character. Not like one of those heartless chain stores. Food is good, cakes are even better and the coffee is amazing, also the playlist is always giving out a chilled feeling! It's a hidden treasure with good vibes.

This is by far one of the best coffee shops in Newcastle. Joe lives and breathes coffee; you will learn the most fascinating things about your drink! Go for the strange coffee that looks like it's being brewed in a science lab.

Fantastic little coffee shop, hidden down a spiral staircase. Joe is one of the top baristas in the country (check out all the awards on the counter) and you can see why. Always a choice of three beans, different brewing methods (haven't tried syphon yet but it's on my to do list) and different styles. The cappuccino is fantastic. I... More

Really great coffee, I love my coffee and have never been keen on the over priced cup of costas and Starbucks. What a find, flat cap coffee shop has been in Newcastle for years and until I saw it on TV did not know of its existence. Housed down a spiral staircase its a small space with the warm aroma... I have been to many places that are claimed to have 'the best coffee in ___'. It's rarely true. The ultimate test of a coffee is whether or not it tastes good through a filter, black and without sugar - because served like that, there is no way to disguise a lack of freshness, poor roasting or low bean quality.... Not sure what all the fuss is about this place. No atmosphere, the place was nearly empty. Much better places to go with atmosphere. Felt claustrophobic sitting in basement of shop. As I was on my own tried to make conversation with the guy who was serving but difficult. The coffee was smooth but tepid. I prefer my coffee hot... More
