My wife and I popped in for one of their famous syphon coffees and weren't disappointed! For £8 we shared about 3 medium cups each, amazing value and unreal taste! Certainly the tastiest cup I've had so far! The barista set up all of the equipment and gave us our own mini tutorial. It all added to the excitement! For... More

Visited in Aug 14. Its a little gem of a place, coffee is great, outstanding atmosphere, a barista who knows and loves his coffee. A must visit ! Beats the commercial chains by a mile. Not the easiest place to find, but you will be surprised where it is. Even bought a bag of coffee beans.

First visit to Flat Caps and will definitely be returning. Great coffee and hot chocolate and lovely cakes. It is a bit like stepping back in time when you go down the spiral staircase into the cafe. The only criticism would be the seating. The stools were very uncomfortable and one at our table wobbled so much it looked unsafe!... More

Or anywhere for that matter. Tiny place and you need to through another shop to get to it. The menu is limited but delicious. Sourdough breads and home baked cakes are the order of the day. If you get a chance, try the siphon coffee. You won't get anything like it at Starbucks that's for sure.

Characteristic and charming café situated downstairs in the Eluha shop Ridley Place. Accessed via a spiral staircase and you are in another world when you reach the bottom. Goats Cheese and Figs Salad, served with Sour Dough Bread. Absolutely delicious. Anyone wanting a different place to eat, this is it. One of a kind. .

Absolutely fantastic spot to have lunch and an excellent coffee. If there are two or more of you try your coffee made using a syphon, its an experience and you get the full experience from an awarding winning barista. If you enjoy your coffee this is the place to visit in Newcastle. I had a fantastic orange and Halloumi salad... More

A small cafe, tucked away, that does what it does very well. You do feel a bit as though you're vanishing into a hidden dimension as you enter through the Eluha new age shop, then down the spiral staircase (note - this isn't for you if you have mobility problems). The coffee is great, and the food is pretty good.... More

I normally end up having a good ramble during my reviews, but I’m going to try and keep Flat Caps short; not because of anything negative, but because I don’t think it warrants a rambling review. Basically, this was, without a shadow of a doubt, the best mocha that I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking. We’d actually gone to... More

Lovely place for a quiet coffee and a cake. Staff are very friendly. Unsure about the spiral staircase (personal dislike). If anything to be improved, I would say the chairs as they are a bit uncomfortable for taller people.

My journey to Flat Cap's started over a year ago, I was about to give up on finding a REALLY great coffee in my home town of Newcastle. Tired of the big chains (International corporation's of Evil) I'd worked my way round the little individual coffee shops and while some are ok nothing came close to hitting the mark until... More
