This place has to be experienced. It is a quirky venue with great staff. They will entertain you and inform you of the contents of the menu. I went with a group of six guys on a Saturday afternoon. It was so good I have been back twice since to show it off to other friends. The menu is great.... More

Great food that's uncomplicated and full of flavour. Have recommended to many of my friends, none of whom have come away with anything other than high praise.

Good restaurant with good Indian street food on offer. I personally prefer the Jesmond branch for atmosphere but the staff are welcoming and you certainly go away with full bellies!

Walking up Grey Street towards Dabbawal on a Tuesday evening (20:00) we noticed that most of the restaurants were virtually empty, the only exception was Dabbawal, pretty full when we arrived and was still full when we left after another superb meal The food is different to the 'standard' indian restaurant their innovative use of spices produce a varied range... I visited 'Dabbawal' when visiting family in Newcastle. Our table was booked for 8pm but when we arrived, it was not ready for us. As an apology, the waiter offered us free complimentary drinks; we had already ordered a bottle of wine so we received this for free! After a half an hour wait, we then were shown to our... More

I went with a big party of people and we must have been annoying for the servers, however they handled us really well. We ordered the Bombay bombs and they were weird, deep fried shells filled with various stuff including cold mashed potatoes. I wouldnt want more than one. I had the mixed grill and it was pretty nice, I've... More

Indian street food is incredibly cheap, especially those based on tiny spiced bits of veg fried in gram flour. Most of the food on the menu is nothing like street food. The half dozen street based foods on offer were at gaspingly exorbitant prices, home cooked cost pennies... Honestly! This food was also dressed and served pretentiously for what it... More

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday night and it was fairly quiet. It was really busy the day before so that was a good sign! We ordered a few of the street foods and had a wonderful bomb like dish (can't remember the name but it lived up to the description) and then Railway lamb curry - the start... More

Having been before I knew the food was going to be great. I / we were not disappointed. Six of us ate of the pre-theatre menu and had two courses for £12 each (one had prawns and paid a £2 supplement). All clean plates. Superb quality and value.
