Indian street food is incredibly cheap, especially those based on tiny spiced bits of veg fried in gram flour. Most of the food on the menu is nothing like street food. The half dozen street based foods on offer were at gaspingly exorbitant prices, home cooked cost pennies... Honestly! This food was also dressed and served pretentiously for what it... More

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday night and it was fairly quiet. It was really busy the day before so that was a good sign! We ordered a few of the street foods and had a wonderful bomb like dish (can't remember the name but it lived up to the description) and then Railway lamb curry - the start... More

Having been before I knew the food was going to be great. I / we were not disappointed. Six of us ate of the pre-theatre menu and had two courses for £12 each (one had prawns and paid a £2 supplement). All clean plates. Superb quality and value.

OK food. But no more ok than many other less pretentious Indian restaurants. But good ambience. Two of us chose early bird menus which were supposed to include house wine at a lower price but we were charged full price. The bill soon mounts up with extras. We would go again because it is close to our granddaughter's uni digs... More

Really tasty and interesting indian cuisine. Would highly recommend all to visit this restaurant as it is one of the best in Newcastle.

Every time I've been here the food and the service has been excellent! Some of the most authentic Indian food I've ever had, and without a doubt the best in Newcastle. The choice of ordering lots of tapas dishes is great as it gives you a chance to try loads of things, and the portion sizes are very good value... More

This is one of a growing trend in restaurants who are trying to provide food that is actually respresentative of the region and not the hackneyed western idea of what it should be. Menu is simple and as it turned out achievable and not hugely expensive. Anyone who has eaten in India will get this and enjoy it.

Dabbawal was recommended to us by one of the bar staff in Brew Dog! Thanks mate! It's probably the best Indian restaurant in Newcastle, and certainly the best one I've been in for ages. The dinner menu is not huge, but I think everyone could find what they want. In fact, bigger in this case is probably not better. I... More

We picked the chefs special. Starters were good. Mains were poor. relatively expensive. Pales in comparison to somewhere like Aagrah.

Wow!! Stumbled upon this restaurant and liked the concept of "street food" and Indian Tapas so gave it a try, very impressed, the tikka chicken was the best I have ever tasted, so good we ordered seconds, succulent beyond words, we tried a couple of the tapas and shared a vegetable jalfrezi as a main, fresh flavoursome and sooooo tasty,...
