Me and dh we're wandering round newcastle last night looking for somewhere to eat by the time we'd gotten to little Saigon my feet were hurting and I was fed up so we went in not expecting much. The service was 'ok' but the food was lovely. We had one of the set menus to give us variety and they... More

First real taste of Vietnamese food - the restaurant itself seems 'no-frills', but there are some good sharing menu options. The large 'cook it yourself pot' certainly seems like a good idea (unfortunately didn't have the stomach for this). The starters are well priced (over-priced starters are a bug-bear), and the mains are of a decent size. I'd probably rate... More

Came for restaurant week. Left disappointed. Service was super-slow even though the restaurant was half-empty. The Vietnamese pancake was quite nice (it's like a very thin omelette), but my main of Vietnamese chicken was just greasy chunks of chicken thigh in a thin gravy that tasted only of 5 spice and sadness.

Visited at the weekend... Bit a quiet spell. So expected a better visit.. Food was good, but let down by simple mistakes. Bits missing of the orders, ordered chicken but received beef.. If everything had been as requested the visit would have been far better. Maybe a one off...

Came here for dinner as we walked past and liked the look of the menu. We ordered spring rolls to start and they were burnt to the point u couldn't cut through them. Then I ordered the 5 spice pork main (£7.95) and it was literally 6 thin strips of pork on two pieces of lettuce leaves. That was it.... More

I have loved this restaurant from it first opening and have visited on countless occasions, went back recently and have to say I was disappointed, the menu appears to have been reduced, and when we ordered vietnamese coffee we were told sorry we have just run out until tomorrow, the server then walked away with no suggestion of an alternative.... Went here with a few friends to this restaurant for supper, and it was very pleasant. Tasty & spicy food, quickly served, and for a good price.

I'm the chef at one of Newcastles finest upmarket restaurants and iv eaten in some of the UK s best but this little oasis situated in the worst part of town is top notch. The food is honest and true. All the ingredients are fresh and treated with respect. The spring rolls are literally my favourite thing ever to eat.... More

So the Bigg Market might not be everyone's favourite spot in Newcastle on a night out, but it's worth a look to try this place. Had never thought of Vietnamese food, but tried this place on a friend's recommendation. Really glad I did as the food, service JD value were top notch. Give it a try!

Visited this restaurant for the first time. After a trip to Vietnam last year, we fancied reliving the memory. Went in for lunch. No one else in at 1.30pm - should have been a warning! Beer and a coke (totally flat) as we read the menu. Veg spring rolls and seafood platter to start. Very nice! Ginger chicken and beef... More
