Tyne and dine at Newcastles Bridge Restaurant, with its spectacular views over the River Tyne and the soaring arc of the Tyne Bridge. The restaurant is in the Vermont Hotel, a Manhattan-style 1930s tower right next to the remains of the citys medieval castle and close to the revitalised Quayside area. Start with marinated herring with crisp pancetta and honey-mustard vinaigrette or the more substantial confit duck and red onion tart tatin. Then dig in to baked lamp rump with minted lentils and garlic potatoes, or pan-seared wild salmon, braised spring cabbage and clam casserole. You may think youll be able to resist the milk chocolate crme brle with Baileys ice-cream, but thats only because youll fall for the steamed lemon sponge with vanilla crme frache instead.

All was good, in particular the value and the liver which was melt in your mouth good. As in the rest of the hotel, the standard of customer service was very high

Enjoyed the wine and dine meal. 3 courses each and a bottle of wine for £69. Fantastic tasting food and the service was second to none. Really friendly staff who went the extra mile.

This has everything the seasoned pub-goer could want, including a great and varied range of cask ales and craft beers. The Saturday night rock music might not suit everyone though.

Tender, tasty meat and proper gravy are what you want in a Sunday lunch and the Bridge delivers, along with enormous Yorkies and nicely al dente vegetables. Priced from £9.95 for a main course up to £15.95 for three, this is excellent value in a competitive market and wines are reasonably priced. They fell short on vegetarian options as only... More

Decided to try here for Sunday lunch as one of us had enjoyed afternoon tea here previously. However, despite the really good service we were disappointed. There was nothing wrong with the food (chicken breast and beef), it was just pretty average. The vegetables were served separately, and we were given one bowl between three of us. This meant that...
