Description: Tyne and dine at Newcastles Bridge Restaurant, with its spectacular views over the River Tyne and the soaring arc of the Tyne Bridge. The restaurant is in the Vermont Hotel, a Manhattan-style 1930s tower right next to the remains of the citys medieval castle and close to the revitalised Quayside area. Start with marinated herring with crisp pancetta and honey-mustard vinaigrette or the more substantial confit duck and red onion tart tatin. Then dig in to baked lamp rump with minted lentils and garlic potatoes, or pan-seared wild salmon, braised spring cabbage and clam casserole. You may think youll be able to resist the milk chocolate crme brle with Baileys ice-cream, but thats only because youll fall for the steamed lemon sponge with vanilla crme frache instead.

Took my nephew for Sunday lunch and was very impressed, from the wonderful décor, to friendly and efficient staff, to the lovely food and tremendous value for money. We had a drink in the lounge while perusing the menu, we were eating quite late and afternoon tea was being served, I will definitely return to try an afternoon tea. The... More

I went here with friends for our Christmas meal and had a superb night. We went end of November so got booked in no problems for the Christmas fayre menu. The hotel itself is very tastefully decorated and it was very warm and welcoming with the fire on and xmas tree lit up. We got a round table for the... More

We had a stunningly good meal here. We opted for the £59 meal deal for two plus one a la carte but our lovely waitress was brilliant and, without our asking, told us she could do the deal for three of us, even providing a bottle and a half of the included wine. We could choose from the whole menu... More

Having lived in London for over 20 years, this total gold mine has charm but the chef produces cuisine better than Claridges or the Savoy, the staff need to up their game, however that are polite and accommodating but just a tiny polish and talking so clients can't overhear is worth a mention but that's trivial compared to this fantastic... Such a shame! Staff and service in restaurant very good and food good also but doors to restaurant are kept wide open, radiators aren't on at night; draught from windows and door so you really need to be wrapped up in warm clothes. Also cold at lunchtime when heating is supposed to be on.

We searched trip advisor for a nice place for afternoon tea, and visited the Vermont Hotel. Excellent afternoon treat, and excellent service, so good that we booked for dinner tonight. Oh me! Food, service, experience was even better. Sumptuous 3 course, with wine for £59 for two. Will be booking to stay here next time we come down to Newcastle.... More

I and the good lady are now regular eaters at the Bridge restaurant within the Vermont Hotel. We are yet to be anything other than amazed with the quality of the food. The starters are always expertly presented, the Scallops with black pudding bon bons is sumptuous! For the mains, the braised beef is an absolute delight (I have eaten... More

We stayed in the hotel on a deal that included dinner and a half bottle of wine person. The food was great, a nice variety too. Very easy to upgrade to Prosecco. A lovely night.
