Slice of Old England

Withies has a great reputation for its food and rightly so. Everything we ordered was hot and fresh. The decor is ancient and normally I run a mile from crocheted table mats, tiny plates and less than modern wine glasses. But stick with it. Speaks volumes that they don't need to modernise. The... read more

Visited here for a friends birthday celebration. Food really delicious. Staff ver attentive but not intrusive. Some meals a little expensive, but a varied choice.

I visited this pub with a walking group and we received a very warm welcome. The food was plentiful and excellent and the service to match. We could only tell the staff how many would be staying for lunch on the morning of the day we visited but this did not cause a problem. A number of reserved tables were... More

We had our wedding breakfast here 33 years ago and decided on a whim to drop in when passing. What a delightful surprise to find the same people still running it. A true family business. It was a really busy Saturday lunch but the service was quick and very good food arrived far quicker than we were expecting considering the... More

Visited in Feb 2013 for lunch and promised ourselves to come back for dinner. So glad we did. The lady behind the bar welcomed us very warmly and took my coat, the dinner was sumptuous, the waiters are so professional, the atmosphere was great. Keeping this review short and sweet as don't really need to say much. Well worth a... More

Dinner in the Withies Inn just before Christmas was an enjoyable experience but could have been better. This was my first visit and there were four of us including one vegetarian. The 16th century timber frame building with low ceilings and an open fire is very welcoming and there is a nice ambiance. Our meal was a bit of a... More

I was served by two excellent young waiters who both gave excellent service and made the visit enjoyable. The food was fine - it is really only slightly above good pub grub these days - a shame because it used to be very special, but it hasn't kept pace with the competition. They maintain the olde Englishe charm, but decrepit... More

This is a beautiful traditional old style English pub, real good quality food with a good specials board as well. Great for food or just to relax and great a drink. A real gem and kept beautifully traditional. Staff and service was also excellent.

This is a very traditional looking pub/restaurant, all oak beams and very low ceilings. We went on a Sunday lunchtime and it was packed so they are obviously doing something right. There is a fairly extensive menu but be warned it's certainly not cheap! The staff were friendly but we felt of a varying standard in their service and we... More

Visited here for the first time to have a snack lunch rather than a full blown meal. Its was a business meeting and without trouble conversation was done without need to shout. Its clear this is a rich area, as most were suited and booted, unlike my business partner and myself. Who were casually dressed. We were made to feel... More
