The pub's menu focuses on traditional, rustic British food, The kitchen is open serving lunch and dinner using local and seasonal ingredients where possible. Food can be enjoyed in the former restaurant area of the pub, but since the makeover, we like to think of it as an extension of the bar now. There is also a new bar menu too, which changes daily, offering a quick bite to eat or snack throughout the day.

Mother's Day Treat

The restaurant has recently been remodelled and redecorated. It has been done very tastefully and sympathetically. The vibe and ambience of the place is relaxed and informal. The wine menu is quite broad and fits well with the dishes on offer. The food is beautifully cooked and tasty however perhaps the size of the portions could be a little more... More

Met a friend here for a drink this week. Not been before and won't be going again. London Pride at £4.60 a pint is taking the proverbial!

We came here as a group while doing a big hike up and around Box hill. Great outside space in the sunshine and a really cosy inside space with a log fire and lots of olde worlde character. Tasty Sunday roasts and an excellent locally produced cheeseboard. Friendly and helpful staff - and for those walking their dogs, the dogs... More

We stopped by at the Running Horses for lunch on Saturday, we received a warm welcome had an excellent lunch...and ended up staying until early evening! The welsh rarebit was the best we've had anywhere - a real treat. We've had the burger previously which a friend described as the best he'd ever eaten! We also visited on Christmas Day... More

The ambiance is nice and the food is really good compared to regular pubs. Melted camembert and t bone steak were delicious!

Nice and warm on a rainy Sunday lunchtime, we visited there with friends who are local. The boys and girls on the floor were smart and attentive, table cutlery new and good quality, linen napiery. Sunday lunch menu was traditional Roast Beef and Yorkshire but there were enough alternatives to satisfy most. I had great Soup and Fish. Prices seem... More

I have been visiting this put for decades, it is a local favourite. I was going to go with friends before Christmas but the menu looked very restricted. We went on Saturday and the layout of the pub is good - better in fact. The bar remains the same much loved bar but in the restaurant there are lovely booths... More

I have visited the restaurant twice over the past couple of months. Both have been of excellent standard. The service has much improved and the food is delicious. The menu changes very regularly so don't expect to revisit for the same meal. The restaurant has a great ambiance and welcomes dogs in the bar.

This was my first visit since the refurb and I was very impressed by the changes. We were welcomed warmly by the friendly and hugely enthusiastic barman. It was nice to be asked what sort of red wine I liked and then given two to try before I decided which I wanted. We had great food, great beer and there... More
