Description: The pub's menu focuses on traditional, rustic British food, The kitchen is open serving lunch and dinner using local and seasonal ingredients where possible. Food can be enjoyed in the former restaurant area of the pub, but since the makeover, we like to think of it as an extension of the bar now. There is also a new bar menu too, which changes daily, offering a quick bite to eat or snack throughout the day.

We stumbled across the Running Horses by chance after a walk at Box Hill. We were so pleased we found this place - what a gem! Could not fault. Food supurb (treacle tart with clotted cream to die for!), staff so friendly and welcoming and overall great atmosphere. We ate in the pub section by the fire and it was... More

We stopped by the Running Horses in Dorking after a local walk. The pub has been recently renovated and looks great. Lovely atmosphere and nice restaurant area. Friendly staff. The food was lovely - not pipping hot - but very good. Dogs welcome. Cosy fire. Definately worth a visit.

Came here for a birthday dinner. Bar and restaurant recently returned to a high standard. Good menu and food presented well. Good upper end pub food and reasonable prices for an upmarket country pub, fish pie, slow roast pork belly and roast cod all very well presented. Worth a visit.

The Runners has had a great refurb and is looking better than ever, but what makes a good pub includes great food and service. On these counts the food, with the exception of the fantastic devilled kidneys, was uninspiring at best and awful at the worst. At the keen prices charged you would expect to receive a thoroughbred meal, not... More

This is a pub of two halves, the actual pub part (which does still serve food) and the restaurant part. Do not eat in the restaurant, the food is old fashioned, the service stiff and the atmosphere bland. However, for a pub lunch either out front in the summer or curled up by the fire by the bar in the... More

Dear A121_2014 As General Manager of The Running Horses - post refurbishment late November 2014 I would like to invite you as my guest for a tour of our refurbished hotel, bar and restaurant. Much has changed since our re-opening and we now offer a British menu throughout with daily specials in the bar area. The restaurant has been given... More

Having been our favourite public house for years where we have enjoyed good service, a good ambience and good food, we were sorely disappointed at the lack of atmosphere, lack of service and second-rate standard of food albeit totally overpriced. I am afraid we will not be returning here and will just have to remember the good times we have... More

Dear Anonymous5528 We are sorry to hear that you consider The Running Horses not the same since the extensive refurbishment. Every effort has been made to maintain the original character whilst preserving the building. However, there is no excuse for poor service...ever...and for this we apologise. If next you are in the area please pop in - we would very... More

We popped in for Sunday Lunch. Upon arrival the barman failed to interact and ignored us and continued to chat with what appear to be "regulars" Waitresses walked passed us and also ignored us. We eventually flagged down a waitress who showed us to a table. The waitress handed us a menu then disappeared to show someone in the cellar!?... More

We visited the pub for the first time following it's renovation and found the interior much cleaner (although smelling strongly of varnish!) and liked the much needed new bar extension. The staff including the new landlady were all very pleasant and attentive. However, the lunch menu was a huge disappointment with little choice, very poor quality and expensive for what... More

What a joy to return to this friendly traditional English coaching Inn after being totally refurbished whilst retaining all its character and good atmosphere. Great menu with some unusual but delcious dishes! We had a wonderful meal in the restaurant with great service by the very attentive staff. Having seen many changes over the years it's good to see it's... More

Our company booked the Running Horses for a Christmas lunch last year. I really wish they hadn't. Here's what I chose: Duck liver parfait, Black bream & three bean cassoulet, and a chocolate and orange truffle tort. The duck-liver parfait was bewildering and seemed like it had been prepared some time ago and allowed to sit around for about a... More
