The pub's menu focuses on traditional, rustic British food, The kitchen is open serving lunch and dinner using local and seasonal ingredients where possible.

Food can be enjoyed in the former restaurant area of the pub, but since the makeover, we like to think of it as an extension of the bar now.

There is also a new bar menu too, which changes daily, offering a quick bite to eat or snack throughout the day.

Comfortable stay

This was the second time we have stayed when visiting family locally. Rooms are well furnished and comfortable and despite being over the pub and by the road are surprisingly quiet. Excellent breakfast. Fairly expensive but the quality justifies it. All staff very friendly and welcoming.

Stunning pub in a beautiful location. There is a lovely buzzing atmosphere around the bar and it felt very calm in the restaurant area. The service was great, really friendly staff. The food was fab - top quality! Thank you for a great evening. We will definitely be back!

We enjoyed the pub food and beer by the fire - perfect for a cold winter's evening! The portions were very hearty and the food really nicely cooked. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend this pub!

They made such an effort on NYE, and as a waitress I know it's awful working on such a night but they made us have such a lovely evening! They even brought out sparklers and gathered everyone outside to listen to the church bells. Was lovely. 6 of us had starters, mains, and 3 desserts between us. We also had... More

Went for Sunday lunch after a walk up box hill and the food was excellent. Lovely setting, tucked away in a lovely little village. Service was great - no wonder it was in top 25 Sunday times foodie pubs in the UK!

Treat yourself to a proper English Pub.....would class this as a Gastro pub so be prepared to pay the prices. Great choice of both Ale and food.....have tried to book a stay here whilst on business but have always found it fully booked so unfortunately cannot comment on the accomodation....yet! But its the sort of pub I'd love to be... More

We stayed at The Running Horses as we have friends in the area and have enjoyed drinking there. I was heartened when I rang up a week before arrival, advising of my husband's dietary requirements. The person on the end of the phone listened intently and thanked me for advance notice of a gluten fee diet. We had a lovely... More

Thank you for your review. I noticed you stayed in October. I have taken over managing the running horses last month and have set about ensuring all dietary requirements are met not just at lunch/evening service but breakfast too. I hope this did not spoil your stay with us. Iain More

Popped in here on a Sunday for some lunch with the family and I was very impressed. I went for the cheese souffle first which was very nice. For the main course I went for the beef, which was excellent; the meat was beautifully cooked. The rest of the family also enjoyed their chosen dishes with my Dad stating that... More

I usually forget to ask the waiters name but on this occasion we were so pleased with our service I made a point of remembering it. The Running Horses has always been a delightful pub and we've been visiting for some 30 years. It's been a little haphazard on the food front, especially in the restaurant; although generally reliable in... More

This used to be a great place to come for Sunday lunch and the occasional dinner . That was before it was sold off and had a referb that spoils atmosphere and the old feel of the place . Full of dogs and hikers and the local residents some very friendly others just rude , it was a great watering... More
