A great place to eat on a walk

We have walked a lot around Box Hill in the Surrey Hills and like the Running Horses a great deal. It is a traditional pub in a small village just across the road from a lovely church. Four of us had lunch there and because of time constraints decided only to have one course. As it was Sunday... read more

5 stars to the girl with the American accent (sorry if it's Canadian) that managed to keep her cool whilst some unfunny bullying hippo of a man made himself laugh at his own jokes because she was unable to provide him with a wine list at that time. She did offer, however, a full written description and a price from... More

A few years ago we used to pop to The Running Horses for lunch quite regularly - having moved from the area we used our old haunt to meet up with friends. We had heard that the management had changed and as it had always been a good pub with solid good food, we were interested to see what it... More

We have not visited this pub for many years. We found that it had all of the qualities we would expect to find in a pub. the menu looks interesting and we must return to try the food.

The Running Horses is sadly not the Pub it used to be. No greeting by a "Mein Host" person now, only bar persons with no personality, smiles or any sort of friendly greeting. The food is ok but although eating the same dish several times, the component parts vary. Beef burgers some times come with onions, tomato and lettuce, then next time... More

This has long been one of my favourite restaurants in the area with good service and food that stands up to the best. We had not been for around 6 months and dropped in this week the refurb has created a great atmosphere and character. I asked the waiter for a wine recommendation and he seems knowledgable offering two choices... More

I have eaten here before, but not for about a year. Since then, the dining room has been re-modeled and is split between 'fine' dining in a newly oak paneled area, and less formal in 'booths' - still set apart from the pub area, which incidentally has a very fine beer brewed specially for it by a microbrewery (amongst others).... Lunch time bar was delicious different and very interesting. Hard to choose , Atmosphere warm and welcoming, and staff were friendly and smart . I look forward to an evening dinner in the very welcoming attractive oak dining room. Prices were fair.

The two of us came here on Mothers Day in anticipation of a good lunch, but not specifically to celebrate. However, the menu was designated "Mothers Day" though it was probably the standard one. Not that it matters, as it offered a comprehensive choice. Mine was roast pork, whilst my partner opted for roast beef. Both were excellent. The starters... More

The restaurant has recently been remodelled and redecorated. It has been done very tastefully and sympathetically. The vibe and ambience of the place is relaxed and informal. The wine menu is quite broad and fits well with the dishes on offer. The food is beautifully cooked and tasty however perhaps the size of the portions could be a little more... More
