My husband and I booked the Volunteer Inn through great write ups from Trip advisor. Staying at Wotton House we wanted to have a lovely pub meal with good home cooking. This is certainly what we got! Great food, great service. Very friendly staff could not ask for more. I would certainly recommend this pub. We will be returning when... More

Proved lively on a Sunday lunchtime with most bar tables taken.Restaurant area not seem to be used. Staff attentive and service quick. Garden somewhat dis-jointed being on several levels in the hill side. Sunday roast one of the weakest I have had.Choice of beef, pork, and lamb but all came with identical vegetable selection and included yorkshire pudding on top!... More

We arrived at the beginning of Sunday lunch and were given a table big enough for the 5 adults 2 toddlers and a baby without issue. While they were clearly busy (most tables were reserved and it quickly filled up) we were served quickly and the food was lovely. Good ale too :) Would highly recommend. This was a repeat... More

We were not disappointed We went on a Thursday evening & booked a table since we also took my daughter, we need not have bothered since there... More

This is one of the best pubs in the Surrey Hills and well worth the trip. We made an impromptu visit recently and found the beer, food and service all excellent. As it was such a perfectly still and warm summer's evening we sat in the tiered garden overlooking the other side of the dale, enjoyed our drinks and basked... More

On a rare sunny afternoon of London, I have enjoyed nice food and great red house wine in Dorking. This is popular spot among cyclers. The service was great, it is family owned nice pub with good view outside sitting.

This is the second time we have been here, the staff are very attentive and welcoming, the setting is great with great walks close by. Food is home cooked and very good. It's make a change to have a pub like this nowadays. Thanks, see you again soon.

The Volunteer is tucked into a cosy valley in the Surrey Hills, west of Dorking between Leith Hill and the North Downs, south of the A25, in the ancient hamlet of Sutton Abinger with its whitewashed cruck-framed houses. A stream runs past, with outside seating facing it alongside the car park and in a garden further up the slope to... More
