The Volunteer is a bit off the beaten track but on a winters evening with two roaring fires it was very welcoming. Friendly staff . At first sight the menu looked a bit ordinary and pricey but the quality and size of the portions were exceptional . My wife declared her fish and chips to be best ever and my... More

What a find, thankfully other restaurants were booked so this little gem came our way. Beautiful building in lovely location. Food.....good honest tasty home made food at fair prices. Puddings lovely and all food came in fantastic portions. Staff friendly. Pub is child friendly and even better....dog friendly! Although we left ours at home. Only one downfall, it shuts at... More

Just been to the Volunteer at Abinger near Dorking. It is such a lovely old English pub. Had Sunday lunch there. Everything looked delicious, but this time went for fish pie ( superb) cheesy top, huge and full of all sorts of delicious fish and spinach with veg. My husband had a steak and ale pie ( a proper one)... More

After an enjoyable 6 mile walk in the surrounding countryside we finished at the Volunteer with a thirst and an appetite to match. Really nice looking pub from the inside and outside and a friendly welcome. However, we ordered two Volunteer burgers and 2 pints of beer. £32 pounds! Yes you saw that right, 2 burgers and 2 pints 32... More

Have known the Manager Adrian and his family for ages they have taken this pub to a new level. Great food and location hikers/cyclists love it as we do. Nice fires in winter and great garden in summer.

Friendly staff even though very busy yesterday. Food was good quality and prompt. We had the deep fried Brie wedges to start, which were very nice although we could have shared one portion between two. I thoroughly enjoyed my sausage and mash and my boyfriend was more than happy with his ribs. All very reasonably prices. Well worth a trip... More

Visited The Volunteer for pre-Christmas drinks and food. This is a wonderful country pub with roaring log fires and beautiful views and garden. Food is excellent and generously proportioned. I had the fish and chips and my partner had the superb belly pork and we were both very happy. The selection and quality of beers are always good with a... More

Always a warm welcome and roaring fire at this Surrey Hills pub. Good food and good beer - and in summer an elevated garden overlooking the historic surrounding Tudor cottages
