Husbands birthday.

On arriving we were shown to our seats promptly and with a warm welcome. Sadly the warmth of our greeting didn't spread through the building - chilly dining area, so coats stayed on and zero atmosphere! No candles on tables, no centrepieces, just a sadly lit room which felt like sitting in a run of... read more

The Tiles when ran by Tim was a lovely place to go , lovely garden pleasant staff and nothing was to much trouble. It was always neat and tidy . Today I am afraid it was a sad reflection . Torn leather seats dirty carpets it's just not on , we ordered the same drinks twice and we're charged different... More

Back again, hoping that things had improved. Food was over priced for portion size and it was a little disappointing. I mentioned my disappointment and the waitress did deduct my pudding from the bill. I know is was a Monday, but it was very very quiet. This pub has definitely dropped in popularity. They had no deals or specials offers... More

I have many fond memories of the Tiles and being local to the area would say it has a prime location for local residents with families. I leave this review with a heavy heart, as I have left it four or five visits over the last 18months+ in the hope that I had just caught them on a bad day.... More

Originally tried the Balkerne Gate (table table) in Colchester, but for some bizarre reason were turned away as they weren't serving bar food!!!!!!!! So we called in at the Black Tiles and so glad we did. There were 8 of us inc two children and we were seated in the restaurant straight away. We all enjoyed our meals, apparently the... More

This place is great for families as they have an outdoor play area and the beer garden is great. If you order things that have to be prepared on the spot then you get a great tasty meal, if you order the Sunday roast it tastes horrendous except for the veggies. I had the cajun chicken burger which was very... More

We have been going to the tiles for over 30 years, many happy memories and the food used to be great value. These days I find the food average but the price high like a quality restaurant. We still go to the tiles as it is a great place to drink, the Adnams is always good as they look after... More

Monday night and a meal for 3 generations at Blacktiles. An easy venue and simple menu but good for intergenerational dining! This is a pub with restaurant attached, it is spacious, the staff are attentive, it has good parking but a simple menu, well executed. It's pub grub plus... not restaurant food!

The Black Tiles is a lovely pub & restaurant, with very good food, including an interesting and varied Gluten Free menu. We visited on a at time and although it was quite busy, we were not rushed and had a very relaxed meal. The staff were very knowledgeable about the menu, and any queries we had about the food &... We went as a party of four to Black Tiles for a meal on Christmas Eve. We were swiftly shown to our table by a smiling and welcoming waitress. We ordered drinks which were brought to us promptly by the bar staff. All three courses of our food were lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done to the chefs!! Atmosphere... More
