Good for a drink

Traditional old sawdust style pub. Very popular place, always busy in the summer you cannot get a seat. Worth popping in.

Another excellent meal yesterday at the anchor. Chilli squid noodle salad followed by the trio of chicken wings (which actually consisted of around 12 wings!). Squid was beautifully cooked as were the wings, the highlight being the Asian style wings in a sticky sauce with fresh spring onion. Service was faultless as always; with extremely friendly and helpful barman and... More

As regular visitors to the anchor over the last 10 years the last couple of visits have put us off slightly - such a shame as this used to be our favourite restaurant in Woodbridge. Today's cod was a smaller than acceptable portion and the curried cod cakes were so curried I couldn't tell there was any fish present. Come... More

I used to drink in this pub during a misspent youth and back then it was always full of colourful characters including amongst others Glass Eyed Eddie who would pop his glass eye into visitors drinks in order to gain a freebie and Gripper Grant the local footie hooligan (There was only one, its a small town). It was also... More

I've eaten at The Anchor five times since moving to Suffolk three years ago and it's never failed to disappoint. And after another fantastic meal last night, it would have been rude not to review it. Two of us ordered the smoked mackerel, king prawn and celeriac marmalade starter off the specials board and it was honestly one of the... More

Awesome food as always. We have visited many times. The food is fabulous and very tasty. Today we are drinking Saint Edmunds larger which is fragrant and floral on the palette. Dog friendly too.

Six of us went for a late lunch, we had ok food but the service spoiled our visit. Firstly our flat bread and dips starters took about 45 mins to arrive, and when they did, the bread was nearly cold. I ordered soup and a sandwich, after another 20 mins waiting I was told the soup I wanted had run... More

We came to The Anchor after speaking to a Saxmundham local who recommended the area, and listed a few places worth checking out for food. I have to admit...came here not really expecting much. Thought we'd get bog standard chain-pub quality food, but was proven wrong! We both ordered the steak, and it was perfect. Although if you don't like... More

Visited one evening for dinner with a group of work colleagues. Even though I live locally I never thought of the Anchor as a foody pub. So glad we went. Its a small but cosy dining area (Mind your head on the low beams) with not many tables but still has a great atmosphere. The food was excellent with both... More
