Whenever we are in the area my wife and I like to take tea at The Bull Hotel in Long Melford. One can always park easily outside the beautiful old timbered building, sink into a cosy chair in the ancient lounge and enjoy a meal or just tea for a very reasonable price. The hotel has a slightly shabby yet... More

Stopped off at The Bull in Long Melford for a bite to eat at lunchtime. Service was slow, it was just past twelve, but adequate once woken up. Ploughman's lunch for me and a green salad and pasta for my partner. Poor selection of bread, what is wrong with fresh baked crispy bread? Stilton was fine but I don't think... More

We stopped for a meal after a day driving and ate in the bar. My husband tried the mixed grill and was not asked how he would like his steak. My lasagne not good, the meat sauce more like shepherds pie and was very obviously microwaved and a bit dried out, the salad leaves not dressed and the whole thing... More

We stopped here for lunch and were delighted. The building is old and full of character, and the bar where we ate has lovely old beams. Our food came quickly and the quality was excellent. The service was efficient with the staff being polite and helpful. Overall, a lovely meal in a lovely old pub which did a lot to... More

We had dinner in the restaurant here recently and were a party of six adults. The building was very old and interesting and the restaurant's decor was tastefully old fashioned, in keeping with the style of the building. Three of us ordered belly pork, which was delicious and well cooked, but one member of our party ordered steak and ale... More

Stopped here for a drink & bar snack - wished we had gone elsewhere to be honest. My wife ordered a lime & soda to be told there was no lime cordial !!!!! A pity no one could have been bothered to go down to the local supermarket - which definately stocked it. But that was really the whole attitude... More

Ever outside table has an ashtray and the tables were covered in ash. I thought they needed to provide a separate area for smokers to kill themselves. Not sure why they have priority over non smokers but we won't be going back!

This is a fabulous place steeped in history. The welcome is warm and service prompt. When i visited last summer the food was good but sadly the last two visits have been disappointing. Probably try elsewhere next time Melford has lots of choice

Dropped into the Bull for a drink today. No sooner had sat down in the outside courtyard than one of the employees started hosing down the courtyard within feet of us. This at lunchtime (12.15) Complained to the receptionist who said she was the duty manager!! She said jobs had to be done to which I replied that it might... More
