Very WYSIWYG What You See Is What You Get

Nice food, but rather predictable as with all chain pubs. If you want daily specials written up on chalk board then this is not for you. What you do get is a variety of classic pub food, cooked well and in good portions. You order at the bar and pay in advance which always feels impersonal I think... read more

A lovely welcoming pub that is full of tradition in the heart of Suffolk. Plenty of places to sit without feeling crammed in, lovely menu and very friendly staff.

I am not a big fan of chain pubs although this one is owned by Greene King at Bury St Edmunds and is has got the feel of a privately owned boozer. Haven't been here for over a year and after eating there yesterday, not sure why I left it so long. Myself and head-office had (Sunday) lunch and we... More

Traditional inside and outside but up to the minute with a big choice of favourites to suit every pocket. There is a bargain fixed menu of two main meals for £9.99 or a more varied choice from the standard menu. My husband and I visited with two other couples and even on a Wednesday lunch time there were quite a... More

Booked a table of 11 in the bar area for Christmas Day (for the third year running). As previously great food and faultless service and even the Guinness was in great nick! They've got it right. Although a managed house personal service and only one sitting, so no pressure. At £50 a head for Xmas day fair value. Have booked... More

I know Christmas is a busy time for them, but they ruined my experience by sticking my family of 13 in the middle of the bar area, after I SPECIFICALLY asked to be seated in the restaurant area when I booked.. Squeezing disabled and OAPs in such a confined space was frankly inconsiderate... I would have booked elsewhere if I'd... More

Ate here at lunchtime, and arrived around twelve noon, so before the place got busy. We ordered two main meals. The food is good value (where a lot of other places locally are expensive). I ordered hunter's chicken and my wife ordered chicken tikka masala. The food took a long time to arrive, but was very nice when it did... More

Enjoyed a prawn sandwich meal deal at lunchtime this week. Lovely fresh bread and tasty filling. Friendly staff as always.

Stopping locally, during the start of Christmas party season, it was always going to be hit & miss dining out without a booking, the first night we walked into the Cock and Bell it was heaving...however this was no problem to the friendly team who found us a table, apologised for the squeeze and that the food might take longer...
