They bring you a salad as a starter included in the price. This consisted of avocado and a few rocket leaves. I don't like avocado so there was a lot of waste. I ordered grilled chicken. When it arrived the skin was moist, almost oily and was not even slightly crisp. It came with grilled tomatoes which were sweet. The... More

This use to be in keeping with other Wheelers but its changed beyond all recognition. Students are the bulk of the waiting staff with either no training or they dont care. Three of them had no knowledge of the menu or wine list. Even the chips tasted frozen. Long gone are the triple cooked variety. As they other writer says... More

Lovely old building. Staff were friendly and the restaurant had a nice relaxing feel. Food was very good and very reasonably priced. Two courses and a bottle of wine for circa £55 + service which we felt was very good value.

Just another place that trades on the name of a celebrity chef who own but makes no contribution so why bother to go, and he suggests we all use Knorr stock, an instant mark down. Just don't wast your money walk across the road and get a seriously excellent meal cooked and served professionally. Look at what the locals do... More

Sunday lunch yesterday (06/04/14) Perfect in EVERY way. Warm crusty bread, the butter on a platter and spreadable, the service - to my standard. The ambience - just how I like it, cool decor too. I had venison which was cooked to perfection, my daughter roast chicken. The yorkshires huge and crispy, veg tasty. Very French which equals perfect. Did... More

If you want Sunday lunch here I would go soon. I won't be surprised to here it has closed or been taken over by someone else. The food is always delicious and this Sunday was no exception but the menu was very disappointing. One choice if starter beet root salad with a bit of celery and only ice cream selections... More

Taking my mum and dad for a birthday lunch, she was looking forward to her first dining experience under the MPW banner. It was mid-week and only one other table was occupied, so service was very quick and attentive. The staff are extremely friendly and professional. We opted for fish and chips and the liver. My fish was fine, however... More

Famous fish pie a dried out bowl of mash with no sauce, no flavour and precious little fish. Hint of salmon was the only evidence of fish. The manager Mr. Stephen was too busy on an "important" call to speak to an obviously unimportant customer ! Eat elsewhere as this place is a joke.

We stayed here recently for a friend's wedding. Lovely hotel, with great service and excellent food at a reasonable price. However, we unfortunately were kept awake into the early hours by a very noisy staff party down stairs! They were good enough to take the room off our bill in the morning when we complained, so fair enough. Would recommend... More
