One day we visited Lavenham and were looking for somewhere to have a light lunch. We came across this place in Water Street. The menu was pretty limited, but that was no problem. The owner was rather busy on the phone, we gathered his car had been broken into and the police seemed to be doing a phone interview. Eventually... More

We had lunch at Sweetmeats Tea Rooms. The owner was stressed and allowed this to show, sadly, saying that he was having to do everything on his own - he was so under pressure he forgot to put the tea in the teapot!! Sadly, the coffee was rather watery and not much flavour; difficult to pour due to type of... More

Had lunch on the Sunday of the Open Gardens event and the tearooms was serving both inside and outside customers and appeared somewhat overwhelmed by the demand. That said my croissant was excellent as was Sue's scone and it was all good value and entertaining as well.

To be frank how 35 reviews show this as excellent is a bit of a mystery. The whole place looks as if it needs a total overhaul and clean from top to bottom. Not very welcoming, tables plastic and out of keeping with a medieval house. Scones obviously home made not totally unappetising but as the place was grubby made... More

We were attracted by the quaint look of the place but sadly, that was the only good thing about our visit. The owner was unfriendly, and despite our attempts at engaging him in friendly conversation, he wasn't going to be drawn in!! Soup was nice, but ham and cheese croissant was dry. Coffee was disgusting... Reminded me of floor sweepings.... More

Visited Lavenham with my wife today. We were struggling to find a cafe with veggie options until we came across Sweetmeats. The veggie options sounded enticing and the only difficulty we had was picking one. My wife had the gnocci and I had the chilli bean tacos; both were delicious and the portion sizes were spot on. We found the... More

We were in Lavenham today for a walk & looking for a tea stop & spotted the sign for this tea room, you walk through the shop to the back & go upstairs; first impressions really do count & from the outset it just didnt feel very welcoming, the lady in the shop didnt seem very cheerful; we went upstairs... wanted to like this place - very nice man in tearoom upstairs of this quaint wonky house and we ordered teas and a hot chocolate - all nice. Then we all ordered a jacket potato for lunch which was not good - I'm not sure how the spuds were cooked but the outside of some of them was covered in... More

I decided to treat my son to ice cream after he spotted the sign and begged to go in. Was "welcomed" by a surly faced woman who told us the tea room upstairs was open. Once upstairs in the tiny wonky shaped room we sat down. one other customer was their. A grump man asked what we wanted a chocolate... More

My wife and I stumbled across Sweetmeats on a recent visit to Lavenham around 4pm in the afternoon . We settled on the cream tea with fruit scone- the tea was very welcome, the scones were warm and nicely accompanied by the jam, cream and butter. The tearoom is situated in a quaint old building and the owner a keen... More
