Stunning

Excellent food and service, being able to watch the chefs cooking is an added bonus! Lovely setting as the historic Wells Cathedral is opposite!

We had a two course meal which was absolutely excellent - both decided on the partridge which was tender and juicy with perfectly cooked vegetables - and we both (sorry about the lack of originality!) followed this with a French apricot and frangipane tart with a scoop of very special ice-cream. Definitely one of the best meals I've ever had,... More

If you love the balance of flavours achieved in top quality French cooking, you will love the food here. Fish is their speciality and they cook it perfectly. Top quality fish, deliciously cooked lovely wine..,what more could you want. The service is excellent also.

We were in Wells on Saturday of a bank holiday looking for dinner. Two places turned us away because we hadn't booked. At 6:30 we walked into goodfellows and were seated upstairs immediately. Menu had many interesting choices. The food was excellent, well beyond our expectations. Service was prompt and friendly.

I had the excellent value 2-course lunch for £21, consisting of tuna carpaccio and roast hake. The food and presentation were superb with inventive sauces and vegetables. I can't wait to return.

Visited here on a busy Saturday evening and enjoyed sitting near to the pass. Watching the chef work was fascinating. My husband and I went for the taster menu at £48 per person and it was terrific. The menu is varied and, although fish is their speciality, there was a wide range of non-fishy dishes on offer. The presentation of... More

This is a long way from Salisbury, so when my wife said we were going out for a taster menu I was excited until I realised how far it was. Also Wells id tricky to park in at night and locate the restaurant. that said once we got there the evening quickly improved. The restaurant has several rooms, all busy... More

Went to Goodfellows again last Saturday evening - probably my 7th or 8th visit over the last 18 months. The menu is always varied (and seems to have more non-fish items) and imaginative - served attentively and accompanied with very decent wine at reasonable prices. Had the minced lamb starter, sea bass main and a very chocolatey pud - all... More

I recently had a meal at Goodfellows, the third time I have been there. I was not disappointed either. Goodfellows is not just a fish restaurant but that is why I go there - on my last visit I had halibut and it just melted in my mouth and on this occasion I tried the Dover sole and it was... More

We wandered off the street into this restaurant, drawn in by a interesting looking menu. I had the duck confit which was excellent; beautifully prepared duck, with a hunter's serving of veggies. I must admit it was a pleasant surprise find in Wells. My wife had a vegetation dish which was good but not outstanding. The dessert choices looked great,... More
