Good pub - poor grub

We visited The Raven on Saturday 28 February 2015 for lunch having been recommended by a friend. It was very busy but two nice chaps made their table free for us downstairs right opposite the front door - very draughty but at least we had a seat. The range of draught beers and cider on tap was... read more

i like the Raven, it has a really nice vibe to it, friendly staff and popular. The downside for me is the food. Is it just me who thinks Pieminster pies are a let down with very little meat in the filling. I had chips but they were poor quality from frozen types. I'd go back but not for food.

Busy pub, had to wait a while and it was quite loud but we were there at a peak time for lunch. Regardless, it was easily one of the best pies I've ever had! Friendly staff too!

Not great ambience for this independent small pub. The beers are great but the food very average, just pies - not great ones I am afraid - and other basic pub food. Seats not comfortable.

Called in at 7pm on Saturday, only just managed to get a seat as it was very busy. Three of us had a selection of real ales, all of which were top-notch. We went for 1 venison pie, 1 mushroom and asparagus pie and a Heidi pie of goat's cheese and sweet potato. All were delicious, served on a bed... More

Great pub serving a great selection of cask ales. BUT... a pie costing upwards of £10..?!? Dined here last month & not really impressed... a pie is a pie, albeit one with decent ingredients, served on a bed of lumpy mash( Definitely not proper...) topped with 'Gourmet gravy' (Very averagely flavoured ) does not justify the price tag, guys. Our... More

But unless you are into pies I would not consider eating here. Never the less on my top five list for a pub crawl in Bath

If you want to experience a good English pub, head to the Raven. Good selection of ales and a terrific pub menu. It's pub food and it's done well.

Called in for Sunday lunchtime pies after being recommended, a good choice of different foods on the menu, but their speciality are the locally made pies, served piping hot with gravy & mash, about £10 each they're not too cheap but very tasty. They have a range of about 5 different real ales - not the best quality that I've... More

Looking for a place to eat on a Sunday evening and this looked good on TA. They have got their own Raven beer !!! It must be good right........wrong !! Finally got served when the barman wrenched himself away from his friends. I translated his grunt to mean " what would you like sir ". I looked at the ales... More
