Mixed experiences

Have been a couple of times recently and it's usually quite good, but had a less enjoyable experience on Easter Sunday. We had booked but understandably on this day they were very busy, unfortunately it meant we had really long delays in our food. They seemed to have taken in too many tables and... read more

We didn't hesitate to book a table for a family lunch at this charming looking and obviously busy and popular pub next to the canal in Bathampton. I understand it's part of a chain but we have previously had satisfactory meals at other Chef and Brewer establishments so had no problem with this. We were given a nice table and... More

A chef & brewer pub which has just been refurbished. Too many cold dark corner tables which is where they put us, took forever to get drinks at the table our starter arrived quickly and was pretty average to say the least but our mains never turned up at all even after asking twice where it was. The best thing... More

Visited today with relatives, just for tea (the drink). Order took about 45mins to arrive, was good when it did - four individual pots of tea, more than we could drink. Also came with plenty of milk, sugar etc. Teabags left in the pots, so we could brew longer for stronger tea, etc. It's worth mentioning that the place was... More

We visited 6th April. Had drinks at lunchtime and booked an evening meal for 7 of us. When we arrived in the evening the waitress/manager took us to our table and remembered what drinks we had ordered at lunchtime. Bearing in mind the restaurant was heaving at lunchtime we were very impressed she could remember.. The food was delicious, excellent... More

Booked a table for 7 plus 1 year old baby. My wife booked the table as it was the first time both our sets of parents came to visit their grandchild at the same time so we thought lunch and a walk along the canal would be a nice afternoon. We arrived at 1 o'clock got settled but had to... More

Easter Sunday and what to do today? A walk along the canal in Bath to blow the cobwebs away something that we often do and enjoy. The sun was out and we decided it was to nice to go home and cook so we would stop at The George and see if they had a spare table. Although they were... More

The pub is located at the side of the canal and has undergone refurbishment which give it a fresh look inside. The menu is great for a pub and the quality of the food is good. If you go at a busy time it would be best to pre book to save disapointment.

This looks like a pub from the outside, but it's not. You're not allowed to sit down and have a drink unless you buy food to go with it, so I suppose it's more accurate to describe it as a fast-food joint. Half the tables inside were empty, yet customers were being sent out into the cold and the rain.... More

Good location by the canal if you want to drink outside, good beer, however, we had 6 meals delivered but had to wait so long for the 7th, a salad that I had to find someone to ask why, other diners had almost finished when it arrived!!
