We visited the George whilst on a narrowboat holiday, mooring close by and checking whether we needed a reservation, which we were told we didn't. On arrival we were shown to our table but noone came to offer us menus or information. The pub was clearly understaffed. Having waited some considerable time, we helped ourselves to menus, waiting again for... More

What a disappointing experience. This used to be a fantastic pub with an excellent reputation. We waited 50 minutes for our food to arrive and when it did unfortunately the beef had more leather than a pair of brogues and one of the roast potatoes was so over cooked it was literally a cinder-a black hollow shell. Sadly five out... More

Very disappointing visit. They brought me a different meal from what I ordered, when I pointed this out the waitress almost insinuated that I was wrong and went off to 'find out what I ordered'! She came back saying that she could order the correct meal for me now - so by the time it arrived my fellow diners had... More

A great location alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal. Sat outside on a gloriously sunny day with a welcome drink following a canal walk from Bradford on Avon on our way into Bath. Fairly busy outside and extremely busy inside. Whilst the décor and furnishings inside appeared to be pleasant, it was a bit of a trek to find the... More

Arrived at our hotel outside of Bath late on a Sunday and the staff at the hotel recommended this place. Wonderful old inn and pub. The food was quite good, though the staff were clearly ready for the day to end.

An amazing location and a great building, let down - when I visited on 6 August - by disinterested and pretty sullen staff, slow and inefficient service, and poor attention to cleanliness. When we arrived, several staff looked in our direction, but no-one said anything, still less offered us a welcoming smile or hello! Courtyard where we sat had loads... More

On arrival we found plenty of parking spaces. However, inside The Pub was very busy. There was some confusion for us as we approached the bar to ask for a table to dine. A long queue was formed but we discovered that the queue was for those who choose to eat at the outside tables. We then acquired a table... More

Nice large pub with very friendly staff. Situated straight off the canal path. Seating outside was great as the sun was shining. Recommend a visit.

Arrived at the George at 1.30pm on Sunday, having booked a table for lunch. Managed to order by 1.50. No sign of food at 3pm so chased it up. The couldn't tell us how long it would be "at least half an hour" so we gave up at 3.05. If they had forgotten our order why couldn't they have put... More

A large old inn right next to the canal, superb location. Some tables and benches outside in the courtyard by the canal and more around the back in a secluded rear entrance. Spacious bar and dining area with very good and friendly staff. Good, beer, wine and choice of most other drinks. Nice choice of dishes on the menu which... More
