Lovely meal and great service

The staff were really friendly and didn't ignore our children and involved them in making sure everything was ok. The food was good, if a little large on the portions. We did feel a little guilty when we couldn't finish it all as it tasted great. Would recommend especially for families.

We have been bringing my parents to the George for 15 years. Excellent food, great atmosphere, good service. In all this time we have been very satisfied with many different choices. The staff are most helpful and always cheerful. Once they had left Bath, we had yet another great evening there as a family. Highly recommend this Inn, its food,... More

The pub itself is lovely - cosy and full of atmosphere. The staff are friendly too. Only downside is that the food is so disappointing. I ordered a gammon and chips. The gammon was the smallest gammon I've even seen. Genuinely little bigger than a slice of back bacon. Once I'd cut round the fat there was only about five... More

I eat at the George at least 4 times a year. Normally the visit and meal is an enjoyable experience. I went today with my husband, he had the cod and chips, I chose the rump steak, chips etc. Unfortunately when my meal arrived the food along with the plate was cold. I asked a waiter if it could be... More

4 of us visited The George today for the first time. The setting is beautiful and everything you would hope for in a village pub. The inn was very welcoming and very clean. The menu was very extensive and there were daily specials. The food was very good if a tad pricey. The service was very good also and our... More

The George has a captive market being adjacent to the Kennet and Avon Canal. I arrived with six friends to find the pub about half full. We had booked a table and after waiting ten minutes our drinks order was taken. After 20 minutes our drinks arrived. It does not take 20 minutes to pour 7 pints of beer. We... More

I have reviewed The George before but I thought this time a special mention was warranted for the managers, who on this winters night seemed to be handling the whole front of house service them selves. Baring in mind this was a dark, damp cold Monday night spur of the moment visit after a slightly depressing day,no fun looking at... More

We have eaten here a few times over the last year. This last time was just myself and my wife. It is a lovely pub in a great setting. The food is good but the service needs to improve. We also found the room rather cold. Great potential for a good all round experience. Come on Chef & Brewer up... More

This is a lovely idyllic pub caught between the canal and church. I have known it for years and thus under various management and - more importantly - kitchen styles. Tried it again this weekend. Firstly, it has lost its pub feel completely and is now definitely a 'gastro-pub' with a small 'p'. You wait to be seated. Etc. the... More
