Description: The Salamander is great city-centre pub with none of the social stigma attached to some of the bars in Bath. ‘The Sally’ serves good food and a fine choice of beers from Bath Ales and beyond, and welcomes a friendly, eclectic audience. It’s small, it’s snug but it’s oh so special! The Salamander is tucked neatly away just off Queen Square in the heart of the Georgian city of Bath. Historically a ‘steak and chop house’, it now consists of a wonderfully simple bar on the ground floor and an impressive dining room complete with galley kitchen upstairs.Using the finest produce from local suppliers, ‘The Sally’ is renowned for its imaginative and varied menu, available both downstairs in the bar and upstairs.

Waited over ten minutes to get a drink at the bar. The pub was not crowded (now I know why)and the bar tender struggled to make three cappucinos having to fetch milk from upstairs. No sense of urgency here.A warm pint of Bath Festival had been sitting in the pipe since last night. Bath Ales please rescue this once great... More

Title says it all really. I'm sure they don't need another person to tell them, but they really did offer great food. Their card machine was down due to weather, but hardly their fault. Mon-Tues-Wed they offer one selected main and a pint for £10 which I will definitely be back to try.

My friends are I stopped here before we left Bath to go back to London and I'm so glad we did. It is a wonderful little place. Great atmosphere and the staff was amazing, so friendly and accommodating. We had to rush to catch our bus and they took our order right away and we got our food quickly. Our... More

My second time here while renovating a flat in Bath. A friend brought me here last week. It's one of his old student haunts. As the title states, Great Ale! Especially the GEM! Great pie! And.... Northern Soul & Motown blasting through the music system on both visits... All I can say SALAMANDER... Is " KEEP THE FAITH ✊

Fantastic atmosphere, lovely staff and brilliant ales. The starters were excellent and boded well for the main courses. Unfortunately, although it was busy, waiting 40 mins for a main course without explanation is very poor. The fish and chips was excellent. I had the hunters' stew and it was so poor I sent it back. To me, a stew should... More

We stopped off here before an afternoon shopping in Bath, and Chris loved his meat and ale pie. We were looking for somewhere to eat away from the main shopping area and saw a sign for this place, which is just around the corner from the shops. The pub stocks beers from Bath Ales, and offers a good range of... More

Booked Sunday lunch and it was explained that a large party could mean a little wait, but they could oblige. Seated next to the most horrendous, cold draft but fortunately another table came free. Eventually my rare beef arrived. It was straight out of the fridge and hadn't visited the micro wave for long enough. Stone cold. It went back... More

If you get the chance to retreat to the Salamander for a few hours you won't regret it! Its a great place to escape the bustle of town, especially with the build up to Christmas well underway. With a choice of 3 great Bath Ales beers - Gem, Barnsey and Spa plus changing guest ales, a range of mainstream and... More

I really liked the look and feel of the bar, usual Bath Ales style. A good variety of bath Ales including the seasonal beer 'Festival'. The food was average / good on taste but way over priced. I had a stew which tasted ok but it wasn't hot, clearly not enough time in the microwave. We paid £26 for two... More

Not the cheapest but the food was awesome, beer battered cod, chips and mushy peas which were buttery goodness. Haddock kedgeree was also amazing. And to top it off some amazing ales!
