The Salamander is great city-centre pub, 'The Sally' serves good food and a fine choice of beers from Bath Ales and beyond, and welcomes a friendly, eclectic audience. It's small, it's snug but it's oh so special! The Salamander is tucked neatly away just off Queen Square in the heart of the Georgian city of Bath. Historically a 'steak and chop house', it now consists of a wonderfully simple bar on the ground floor and an impressive dining room complete with galley kitchen upstairs.Using the finest produce from local suppliers, 'The Sally' is renowned for its imaginative and varied menu, available both downstairs in the bar and upstairs.

Good unpretentious pub

Great pub in central Bath. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Full selection of Bath Ales. Food looked good but we didn't eat - maybe next time, as will definitely re-visit.

My cod was great but sitting on too much cold fennel, raw onion and quartered tomatoes. Others had chips - not nice and over cooked. Two had monkfish scampi and said hardly any fish. The ice cream had watery, cold toffee sauce. Lovely waiter who had sixth sense. Let down by heavy hand in the kitchen. A bit more care... More

Hi Moc20 Stuart here, Head Chef at the Salamander. I wanted to take the time to write back to you personally because I am hugely disappointed to hear that the food you received from us was not to the standard you should expect. Sadly, your visit occurred whilst I was away from the restaurant and a temporary cover chef was... More

If you like real ale and your in Bath then try this venue as its one of the best in my opinion. Not only do they do their own beers (Bath Ales GEM) they also offer other brewery beers. The food is also reasonable priced and of good quality and the staff are all really friendly and helpful.

The entrance beguiles the quality of food inside this pub. Do not be tempted to get up and walk out before you've ordered your food. Place your order at the pub and wait for the best meals ever. Really incredibly good food. The sweetcorn and leek chowder was out of this world delicious as well as the Ale battered Fish... More

Hi NashB, Thank you for your kind review. I'm so glad you enjoyed the fish and chips. The secret is using the Bath Ales SPA (Pale Ale) in the batter. We try to incorporate the beer into the food as much as possible, my favourite is the Cheese and Beer Toast made using our stout. We hope to see you... More

We stopped here for a well needed refresher and weren't disappointed. It's a lovely little pub which is spotlessly clean but isn't at all overly commercial. We had a couple of drinks and they clearly know how to keep the excellent Bath ales which were top notch!

This is a nice little pub, with good beer and good food. We went in on the Saturday lunch time and it was quiet but obviously popular. The barman had excellent knowledge of the beers and the food. I asked about the 'Bristol Leaves' and was given a comprehensive answer. His recommendation of beer was good too. Our food was... More

Hi Karl, Firstly, apologies for the lack of sandwiches. It was a team decision not to serve them at the weekend as we feel we have so much more to offer from our full menu. I'm glad you found some tasty bar meals to satisfy your needs! The wings are my favourite so top marks on your choices! Thank you... More

Excellent place, very impressed. Good beer, and the food was good too. The barman should be commended on his knowledge of the beers available and the food on offer on the menu. It is refreshing to meet someone with such enthusiasm for for his trade. We will be back.

The Ales are awesome and have a great variety. I had their chicken pie and my wife and son had fish and chips. The food was very good and the service was fast.
