Description: The Salamander is great city-centre pub with none of the social stigma attached to some of the bars in Bath. ‘The Sally’ serves good food and a fine choice of beers from Bath Ales and beyond, and welcomes a friendly, eclectic audience. It’s small, it’s snug but it’s oh so special! The Salamander is tucked neatly away just off Queen Square in the heart of the Georgian city of Bath. Historically a ‘steak and chop house’, it now consists of a wonderfully simple bar on the ground floor and an impressive dining room complete with galley kitchen upstairs.Using the finest produce from local suppliers, ‘The Sally’ is renowned for its imaginative and varied menu, available both downstairs in the bar and upstairs.

We were enticed in by the choice of real ale but ended up having a superb meal. We eat upstairs which has a more of a restaurant feel, having sampled some of the ales in the bar below. The menu is good traditional food (in a good way). The chef obviously knows what he is doing and delivers flavoursome fresh... More

We skipped firsts, as the dessert list was enticing. Sticky pork belly with chorizo, pulses, and cracklings (the seriously crisped skin of the belly) was every bit as good as it sounds, deeply flavorful and perfectly prepared. A "risotto" of barley with butternut squash and chevre was creamy and rich and wet without being underdone. A happy decision about saving... More

Good food, there were friendly and helpful staff, seemed a little pricey though for what was essentially pub grub.

Thanks for the feedback! We're now doing 2 courses for just £10 over lunch times so if you want to get a bit more value, 12-3 is the answer! More

Excellent little pub with a wide selection of Bath Ales and Ciders. The staff were friendly (as were the patrons) and the ambiance was great- definately stop in as the location is also very convenient

Came here with friends for Sunday lunch. Been to the bar downstairs lots of times and always enjoyed it. First time in the restaurant. Bright and modern dining space. The choice for all 4 of us was a no brainer - after seeing the HUGE Yorkshire puddings at the pass we all chose the roast beef. Absolutely delicious and plenty... More

Please do not miss the pork belly at The Salamander - head chef, Luke, knocks it out of the park with this dish. The pork belly is fork-tender with a crispy, delicious crunch to the top. It's served in a broth with white beans and chorizo - I was slightly concerned that it might be too salty, but it certainly... More

THe food was good and the staff were very friendly and accomodating. They were more than happy to alter a dish on the menu to how I wanted it cooked .........

The Salamander doesn't pretend to be anything other than a city pub with a bit of nosh on the side. Excellent Bath Ales with some reasonable wines make this place a haven to the weary shopper. There's plenty of places to eat that out place this pub eg next door at the fireside grill but really you don't enter the... More

I thought the Salmander would be an old pub with old traditions. It is not. It is an old pub made into some sort of modern wine bar type of place. Very disappointed. I asked for advice on beers and realised that the staff where young, females who had no idea and were not that even friendly. Much preferred the... More

I am whole heartedly sorry that we didn’t meet your expectations on this visit. We are indeed a very traditional pub despite your impression. How you came to "wine bar" from what you saw at the Salamander is beyond me. Our selection of great beers which we keep incredibly well and are all brewed less than 6 miles away, outweighs... More

I had lunch at the Salamander with my wife and daughter last Sunday. It was recommend by my daughter who is at University in Bath. The food was excellent. My wife and I both had a roast (beef and pork) and both were cooked to perfection. My daughter was also very pleased with her burger. We were first in at... More
