Description: The Salamander is great city-centre pub with none of the social stigma...
The Salamander is great city-centre pub with none of the social stigma attached to some of the bars in Bath. ‘The Sally’ serves good food and a fine choice of beers from Bath Ales and beyond, and welcomes a friendly, eclectic audience. It’s small, it’s snug but it’s oh so special! The Salamander is tucked neatly away just off Queen Square in the heart of the Georgian city of Bath. Historically a ‘steak and chop house’, it now consists of a wonderfully simple bar on the ground floor and an impressive dining room complete with galley kitchen upstairs.Using the finest produce from local suppliers, ‘The Sally’ is renowned for its imaginative and varied menu, available both downstairs in the bar and upstairs.

We had a lovely meal here and the beer was just as it should be. We both had a flat iron steak which was good and cooked well and the 'proper chips' were fab. There was a lovely atmosphere upstairs in the restaurant part and our waiter was very welcoming and helpful.

A local recommended The Salamander's Sunday Roast and it didn't disappoint. I highly recommend the lamb roast, and my boyfriend loved the Yorkshire pudding with his roast beef.

The Salamander has always served decent beer so, when my friend suggested meeting up somewhere we hadn't been for a while, I was happy to rendevous here. After several pints of excellent beer (served by a friendly bartender who consistently remembered what we were drinking) my friend suggested eating and my heart sank. I'd last eaten at the Salamander a... More

Traditional sunday roasts - easy to get wrong, great when they are done right. This one was great! Super service from the two staff in the small dining room - only 30 covers so worth booking. Bath ales were as delicious as ever. Food - excellent. All well above average ingredients, Best thing was, it all looked and tasted cooked... More

Ended up in this restaurant a bit by chance as it was the only one which was not fully booked on a Saturday night. When we arrived we were asked to wait 10-15 mins at the pub downstairs as the restaurant was full - 10 mins later the lovely waitress came to call us as our table was ready. I... More

We stumbled across this pub on a windy afternoon in Bath and sampled some of the wonderful ales. We then returned for a drink in the evening AND for lunch the next day, The Salamander received a lot of our business over the course of a weekend! The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is tasty and the atmosphere... More
