Description: Situated in a unique Grade II listed Georgian building in the heart of Bath, Gascoyne Place has enjoyed many awards and plaudits since opening in 1996. Five distinct spaces (from a traditional pub-like corner snug to elegant Georgian dining rooms) could be your setting in which to indulge in a modern British menu that only uses fresh ingredients, obtained through close links with local farms and fisheries. Located 20 metres from Bath’s Theatre Royal, and overlooking Sawclose Piazza, Gascoyne Place suits pre or post theatre wining and dining marvellously, though not to be outdone, the restaurant hosts its own entertainment with live free jazz sessions from 8.00 every Sunday.

Went for a pre theatre meal the quality and quantity of which was very good. The environment is a bit pubby, but the value for money is great.

The three of us arrived at the place four minutes before seven, and after getting two confirmed answers for whether the set dinner menu was still available & whether we could just share two two-meal set courses among us, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. My family, other than me, do not have a stomach for western cuisines. I've... More

We had a fantastic time at Gascoyne, we were being looked after by a friendly Yorkshire Elvis called Gavin, he recommended certain dishes which were aamazing. Desert was great, I wanted something that wasn't on the menu but they made it possible for me. I've never experienced such great service. He really was fantastic. I had lamb and it was... More

4 of us ate here yesterday evening before going to the theatre. Although we were about 20 mins late as we got stuck in the Bath traffic, it wasn't a problem. The welcome was friendly, the service efficient and the food tasty. The set menu is good value but there is also the main menu to choose from - 2... More

Visited last weekend with the in-laws who were visiting. Was a little nervous after booking the table as the member of staff who answered the phone seemed very rushed, telling me he only had a minute to talk. However, on arrival the staff were very friendly and the service was great throughout the evening. Comprehensive wine list, with a few... More

Dinner at 5.45pm seemed rather strange - but necessary if visiting the Bath Theatre Royal just across the road. We made a reservation online in advance and received an email confirmation. There were several other couples / small groups doing the same thing. Service was efficient and professional. the food was excellent - good choice and good value on the... More

Gascoyne place is definitely worth a visit. it is very convenient for the Theatre Royal and last orders are normally after the end of the show. The food was very good and they serve a wide range of beers and have an extensive wine list. The service was excellent - really attentive and always with a ready smile. They have... More

If we had not booked in advance (based on reviews on Trip amongst other things), we would not have gone in. The dining area is downstairs and very uninspring to look at. And the menu also was not particulalry inspiring, mainly burgers and steaks. But food was actually much better than we had anticipated, and the staff were friendly and... More

This is a fabulous place for a pre-theatre dinner. The food is excellent, so full of flavours, beautifully presented and quite reasonable too on the set menu. The location is great, just opposite the theatre. The wine list is comprehensive and there's also a varied choice of beers, including a cornish lager. Overall, we had a great meal in very... More

We wanted a pre-theatre meal and decided to try the Gascoyne because of its proximity to the theatre and seemed more reasonably price than the nearby Bistros. We hadn't tried it before because the exterior is not particularly inviting but the ground floor dining room was attractive and the tables far enough apart. We were pleased to be placed in... More
