Situated in a unique Grade II listed Georgian building in the heart of Bath, Gascoyne Place has enjoyed many awards and plaudits since opening in 1996. Five distinct spaces (from a traditional pub-like corner snug to elegant Georgian dining rooms) could be your setting in which to indulge in a modern British menu that only uses fresh ingredients, obtained through close links with local farms and fisheries. Located 20 metres from Bath's Theatre Royal, and overlooking Sawclose Piazza, Gascoyne Place suits pre or post theatre wining and dining marvellously, though not to be outdone, the restaurant hosts its own entertainment with live complimentary jazz sessions from 8.00 Every Sunday and live blues every Friday evening.

Complete surprise

I have to be honest, I wasn't sure that we have a peaceful meal when we walked in as the bar was heaving and very loud. I also thought that it was be standard pub food. As we walked up the stairs it got quieter and as soon as the food arrived I was astounded by the presentation and taste.... read more

We stumbled across this pub - wanting a nice Sunday lunch. The place is nice and the waiting staff were friendly and attentive. They also have an extensive menu - which is good for me, because I don't always want a roast on a Sunday! Ended up having calamari for starter, which was large and very tasty. Then had a... More

I booked Gascoyne Place for a team social of 35 people. Through all our discussions around our event, Marty and his team were very helpful. We pre-ordered our food, as we weren't arriving until late, and everything arrived as ordered. The Gascoyne Place team even managed to accommodate a couple of unscheduled diners with no difficulty at all. The wine... More

We went primarily for the live Jazz that they have on a Sunday evening, in our mind the food was an accompaniment. The Jazz was great but I have to admit that the food has to share the top billing as well. We had ham hock fritters and calamari for starters, the calamari was perfectly cooked and well flavoured but... More

Enjoyable Sunday evening of live jazz and good food. The service was very good, the staff very knowledgable. Was a good ambience about the place, would definitely return. Parked 50 yards away as the parking restrictions didn't apply on a Sunday.

Arranged Mothers Day lunch for my son and his mum and nothing too much trouble in terms of arranging payment and welcome drinks. They had a great meal and with great service. Will be back.

I have used Gascoyne Place as a location for a series of company lunches over the last month or so and have been really happy with the service that has been received both in making the necessary arrangements for each lunch and with the service and food on each visit. Feedback from my colleagues attending the lunches has included comments... More

We came here on a Saturday night during a live band performing. So it was hard to hear one another talk but the food was delicious. I had the venison. It was cooked perfectly. It was mouth wateringly good.

We have now been back to Gascoyne Place for a fourth visit. Perfect for a pre-theatre meal, with welcoming and very pleasant staff. We were able to get a table for two without booking for a Saturday lunchtime, which was surprising. The room is light and spacious enough not to feel crammed in. Very good choice of menu and well... Had the pre-theatre set menu. The food was ok but was let down by the fact I found large bone bits in my starter of ham hock fritter. I raised this with the waiter and they apologised. The main for me was much better I had traditional fish & chips. The batter was nice and light.
