We have used this pub on numerous occasions and always had excellent food and service. Today the service was poor. We had to ask for glasses for table water and mustard. Incorrect order came to the table. We would have stayed for deserts and coffee but the waiting staff never offered it having only half cleared the main course away... More

Nice atmosphere - ate early (7pm) so relatively quiet but got busier as evening went on. We went for 3 dishes off their "classics" menu and were not disappointed. Food was well presented and quality was good. Good selection of wines as well and at reasonable prices by the glass. If you're after a good gastro pub this definitely fits... More

Absolutely incredible food. We had the scallops to share as a start, which were wonderfully cooked and fresh with a cheeky little foam to be fashionable. My girlfriend had the burger which was the best she's ever tasted she says. I had the venison. Now I've had venison a lot, I would even say I'm something of a game connoisseur.... More

The Chequers ambiance wise is a pub - no tablecloths - hard surfaces . The food is good. It is cooked well and well presented. But ..... The place was cold. The service was at best average. (The waitress was lovely when she was there.) The issue is one of price. If a restaurant chooses to charge £11 for a... More

The restaurant had a so-la-la athmosphere and was merely heated (door open in winter time). We both were freezing the whole time. First they tried to squeeze us between two other tables with no space for us even we had made a reservation in advance. The staff was not very kind and not really showing any enthusiasme for serving the client.... I'm not a big fan of gastro pubs but found The Chequers an exception. The food was excellent and so was the service. The selection of beers was good and the meal was good value for money. There wasn't anything that I didn't like.

Arrived on a very cold Saturday evening after walking from the other side of the city. Initially we were told there was no tables available but within minutes we were sat down. The staff were all very helpful but not in your face all the time. We ordered 2 very nice glasses of wine, one red and one white. We... More

Really unhappy with our experience here. Slow service, no atmosphere and below average food at above average prices. Would never return I'm afraid.
