We chose the Golden Cross for my birthday dinner and took two friends who eat out and go away quite often so they're not that easily impressed. I always love the idea that this place has been a pub since 14-something and today it has a quirky, cosy interior that doesn't detract from its heritage. Unusually I chose steak and... More

We were expecting this to be way better! The soufflé was flat, more like a tart. I had the 'curry' which was nothing like a curry! Tomato sauce with no spice at all. The only positive thing I can say is the service was ok and the ambience was nice. Problem is this is a pricey restaurant and I'm paying... More

By looking at the photographs and reading about the history of the place you might be expecting decor that befits an historic building with some quite considerable history behind it. All the old oak has been painted in white and other pale pastel colours, even the antelope horns have not escaped the white emulsion and not only are they painted... More

We went here for an evening meal . We possibly picked the wrong night as this was a treasure hunt night. So whilst half way through our meal we were joined by a crowd . Now the food is ok . Not something to jump up and down about. Prices reflect the surroundings so are a little bit pricey. All.that... More

How on earth The Golden Cross rates so low on tripadvisor I do not know. This is one of the best places to eat in town. It's a safe haven when you want good honest tasty food. I have eaten here virtually every other month for the past 10 years and u can't recall either myself or a guest of... More

Beautiful restaurant in the centre of Shrewsbury. Fine food and nice ales. Particularly the whitebait and the welsh lamb are mouthwatering and if you are a steak lover go for the sirloin steak. Children are very welcome and my three year old loved the place. Do not forget to order the chocolate nirvana, which is delicious.

I'd wanted to eat at the Golden Cross for years and this weekend I finally got round to it. It was well worth the wait and a truly memorable evening. The food was amazing, so hard to choose from the imaginative and creative menu. We were all impressed with our choices. The service was impeccable and helpful, answering our queries... More

Sat in the front restaurant for our food- I had the pulled pork which was strangely presented but I liked it! Really nice flavours... And my boyfriend had the fish and chips which looked amazing and apparently tasted great (They weren't there long enough for me to taste! Haha). Service was prompt though the waitress was a bit miserable... It... More
