Description: Opened in 1994 and now under the ownerships of Manager Alistair Myers and Chef Tom Lawson Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield's finest restaurants. The combination of the highly skilled & creative cooking of Tom and the kitchen team partnered with the knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed service of Alistair and the front of house team partners to make the best dining experience possible. Both brought up locally Alistair went to Tapton School where he did his work placement at the Forte Post house and has been hooked on the catering industry ever since.Leaving school at 16 to pursue his chosen career in a work based modern apprenticeship Alistair has worked in some of the best Hotels and Restaurants in Sheffield and the surrounding area learning his trade always with the ultimate ambition of opening his own restaurant one day. Tom started cooking at the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the highly regarded Sheffield College for a one week cookery course in the summer holidays whilst at High Storrs. It was this initial introduction that sparked his passion and ultimately led him back to Sheffield College where he completed his Professional Chefs diploma and was named college chef of the year. After leaving college Tom has worked at the highest level in Restaurants and Pubs in Sheffield and the surrounding area, maintaining and gaining local, regional & national recognition wherever he has cooked. Working together for the past 5 years it is the shared vision that dining is about the whole experience and not just the kitchen or dining room that brought Alistair & Tom together to embark on the journey of running their own restaurant working together as one team with the goal always being to delight and satisfy the customer.

Roast beef that was pink and cooked to perfection, with home made yorkshire pudding and fresh veg that included spinach cooked into a firmish heap, not a splodge, made this a great lunch. Chocolate dessert was truly scrumptious and the whole thing served quite quickly as requested (though it's normally served more leisurely). not cheap at £28 a head for... More

I hosted a table of four people at Rafters and the food lived up to its billing. Between us we had most of the items on the menu, but here is my own choice. Starter: 72 hour belly pork with a soy glaze, charred broccoli, peanuts. Main course: venison (roasted loin), suet pudding, celeriac and red cabbage. Pudding: blackcurrant arctic... More

Rafters never fails to impress. Without fail I have an amazing dining experience whether it be for Sunday lunch or a special meal in the evening. There's always a warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble, they'll go out of their way to make your meal exceed expectations.

We hadn't visited Rafters since the restaurant changed ownership in November 2013. We had heard good reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was exceptional, and superbly presented. Every course was excellent from the "amuse bouche" through to dessert. We had the "a la carte" menu but there was also an excellent tasting menu for the whole table to... More

We visited Rafters to celebrate my birthday recently and I'm glad we did. The food was perfect! The venison in particular was a joy to eat. The wine selection was great, offering something for everyone. I'd highly recommend Rafters to everyone.

A superb meal to celebrate my wife's birthday: very well cooked food (don't overdo it on the beautifully judged bread - dessert deserves your full attention, too), excellent advice on matching wine to our meal and very attentive service. Our request for a slightly more relaxed pace between courses was immediately picked up by Alistair, who was attentive throughout. Support... More

We have eaten here a few times now. Service and food impeccable. My only criticism would be the surroundings, really need an upgrade! Won't stop us eating there though.

Rafters is a small restaurant hidden away between Ranmoor and Nethergreen, but it's worth finding. The restaurant itself (dining is upstairs, so access might be an issue) is small but the tables are well-spaced, the floor is carpeted and there are curtains on the windows. this means that the rather noisy table on the other side of the room didn't... Can't complain about the service, the atmosphere and the taste of food, as it's all really good. However, it's like having dinner in a doll house with doll house sized portions, and it's not cheap either. I agree that good quality food and fine dining comes at a price, but I would like to at least feel like I have... More
