Description: Opened in 1994 and now under the ownerships of Manager Alistair Myers and Chef Tom Lawson Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield's finest restaurants. The combination of the highly skilled & creative cooking of Tom and the kitchen team partnered with the knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed service of Alistair and the front of house team partners to make the best dining experience possible. Both brought up locally Alistair went to Tapton School where he did his work placement at the Forte Post house and has been hooked on the catering industry ever since.Leaving school at 16 to pursue his chosen career in a work based modern apprenticeship Alistair has worked in some of the best Hotels and Restaurants in Sheffield and the surrounding area learning his trade always with the ultimate ambition of opening his own restaurant one day. Tom started cooking at the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the highly regarded Sheffield College for a one week cookery course in the summer holidays whilst at High Storrs. It was this initial introduction that sparked his passion and ultimately led him back to Sheffield College where he completed his Professional Chefs diploma and was named college chef of the year. After leaving college Tom has worked at the highest level in Restaurants and Pubs in Sheffield and the surrounding area, maintaining and gaining local, regional & national recognition wherever he has cooked. Working together for the past 5 years it is the shared vision that dining is about the whole experience and not just the kitchen or dining room that brought Alistair & Tom together to embark on the journey of running their own restaurant working together as one team with the goal always being to delight and satisfy the customer.

Not time to do an in-depth review today. Original and delicious food, pleasant ambiance, good service. Priced at the high end, but lives up to it. This restaurant is highly recommended.

I visited Rafters with my husband for my birthday treat. We had a three course dinner with wine and it was the best meal I have had in ages. The portions are delicate and full of flavour. I had a chicken starter, cod lion and festive arctic roll. Homemade bread was served which was fabulous. The room is welcoming and... More

We have eaten the food of many chefs at Rafters over many years and whilst the chef's and owners may have changed again recently, the décor etc has changed little which is probably a shame as it is really due a big overhaul and update. That being said it remains a nice restaurant to visit and the quality of the... More

It's a little bit off the beaten track, noticeable because the GPS on my phone insisted on losing signal at the most important points of the short journey from the centre of Sheffield. It'll probably take you a few minutes to park as the restaurant is at a set of traffic lights. We arrived early in the evening and were... More

Well worth the drive up and down to find this place. We had heard a lot about it and wanted to give it a try Both starters were excellent, I had the salt baked beetroot, it was excellent and lots of it! with Venison as my main course again very good. Cheese Board and dessert wine to finish. Excellent wine... More

Visited the restaurant for Sunday lunch recently. Situated about 3 miles outside the city centre, but well worth the effort. You could miss the restaurant because it is situated above a replacement window shop, and right on a crossroads. Not the best view, but you are here for the food and not the view. We opted for the 3 course... More

Roast beef that was pink and cooked to perfection, with home made yorkshire pudding and fresh veg that included spinach cooked into a firmish heap, not a splodge, made this a great lunch. Chocolate dessert was truly scrumptious and the whole thing served quite quickly as requested (though it's normally served more leisurely). not cheap at £28 a head for... More

I hosted a table of four people at Rafters and the food lived up to its billing. Between us we had most of the items on the menu, but here is my own choice. Starter: 72 hour belly pork with a soy glaze, charred broccoli, peanuts. Main course: venison (roasted loin), suet pudding, celeriac and red cabbage. Pudding: blackcurrant arctic... More

Rafters never fails to impress. Without fail I have an amazing dining experience whether it be for Sunday lunch or a special meal in the evening. There's always a warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble, they'll go out of their way to make your meal exceed expectations.
