Opened in 1994 and now under the ownerships of Manager Alistair Myers and Chef Tom Lawson Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield's finest restaurants. The combination of the highly skilled & creative cooking of Tom and the kitchen team partnered with the knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed service of Alistair and the front of house team partners to make the best dining experience possible. Both brought up locally Alistair went to Tapton School where he did his work placement at the Forte Post house and has been hooked on the catering industry ever since.Leaving school at 16 to pursue his chosen career in a work based modern apprenticeship Alistair has worked in some of the best Hotels and Restaurants in Sheffield and the surrounding area learning his trade always with the ultimate ambition of opening his own restaurant one day. Tom started cooking at the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the highly regarded Sheffield College for a one week cookery course in the summer holidays whilst at High Storrs. It was this initial introduction that sparked his passion and ultimately led him back to Sheffield College where he completed his Professional Chefs diploma and was named college chef of the year. After leaving college Tom has worked at the highest level in Restaurants and Pubs in Sheffield and the surrounding area, maintaining and gaining local, regional & national recognition wherever he has cooked. Working together for the past 5 years it is the shared vision that dining is about the whole experience and not just the kitchen or dining room that brought Alistair & Tom together to embark on the journey of running their own restaurant working together as one team with the goal always being to delight and satisfy the customer.

Fabulous and Full

I visited Rafters yesterday for a family party and feel compelled to write a review! I'd read a lot of reviews on here and was a little worried that the portion size wouldn't be big enough for me as I do love my food! I needn't have worried - I was stuffed!!! Everything from the champagne to the... read more

I certainly love to sing the praises of Rafters as I believe its the finest place to eat in Sheffield, just look at my previous reviews ! But and yes there is a but and that's I really don't think a normal person would be satisfied with the amount of food received. Let me refrain that, yes they would be... More

It is some time since we visited Rafters as under the previous ownership our last visit was disastrous. We had heard some good reports and decided to give it a go. Saturdays are very busy and we had to book about four weeks ahead, so bear this in mind. Food, service and ambience were all first class, my only minor... More

Great food ,very tasty, but the potions were small. I don't mind paying out for good food but I felt that I didn't get value for money.

The food was really good but the potion sizes let it down really bad, my husband was that hungry when we got home he had to have another meal, disappointing really to say how much it costs.

Lovely tasting food but portion size an absolute insult. Really ridiculous portion size. Haven't been for a year but don't remember the portions being so small. Honestly such a shame. Trying too hard with the presentation. I'm a normal person with a decent but average appetite. Went home and had toast before bed...........won't be back. Disappointing that similar reviews have... I decided to surprise my wife and booked rafters after the good reviews. From the initial booking I made with the owner Alastair to the meal it was one of the most enjoyable experiences we've had. We arrived and were seated promptly. The staff were all knowledgable, polite and attentive without being instructive. However the star of the show was... More

A first time for me and a family birthday celebration.I couldn't fault the service or the food, beautiful expectation from the plate to the taste, nothing disappointed apart from wanting more!.Knowledgable wine information without pretension, unobtrusive service when appropriate and the whole evening was made relaxed and extremely enjoyable by a very professional team, thankyou,.
