Opened in 1994 and now under the ownerships of Manager Alistair Myers and Chef Tom Lawson Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield's finest restaurants. The combination of the highly skilled & creative cooking of Tom and the kitchen team partnered with the knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed service of Alistair and the front of house team partners to make the best dining experience possible. Both brought up locally Alistair went to Tapton School where he did his work placement at the Forte Post house and has been hooked on the catering industry ever since.Leaving school at 16 to pursue his chosen career in a work based modern apprenticeship Alistair has worked in some of the best Hotels and Restaurants in Sheffield and the surrounding area learning his trade always with the ultimate ambition of opening his own restaurant one day. Tom started cooking at the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the highly regarded Sheffield College for a one week cookery course in the summer holidays whilst at High Storrs. It was this initial introduction that sparked his passion and ultimately led him back to Sheffield College where he completed his Professional Chefs diploma and was named college chef of the year. After leaving college Tom has worked at the highest level in Restaurants and Pubs in Sheffield and the surrounding area, maintaining and gaining local, regional & national recognition wherever he has cooked. Working together for the past 5 years it is the shared vision that dining is about the whole experience and not just the kitchen or dining room that brought Alistair & Tom together to embark on the journey of running their own restaurant working together as one team with the goal always being to delight and satisfy the customer.

Perfect lunch

This visit made our wedding anniversary. The venue is comfortable and homely, but on the first floor, so don't drink too much! The three course lunch was absolutely delicious. It really is about time the good people of Michelin revisit this restaurant and do the decent thing and award Tom and Alistair a star. We had the tasting menu to celebrate my daughters graduation from University of Sheffield. The food we had was executed with perfection and given the youth of the senior team it was remarkable. Not cheap... More

We had the taster menu which was many courses of delicious tastes combined with appropriate wine. Not cheap but worth it .

We came here for a birthday celebration. We are new to Sheffield and had heard and read about how good Rafters is. We were not disappointed. We had the tasting menu with matching wine. Beautifully cooked and presented food really complemented by attentive (but not overpowering) service by friendly, knowledgeable staff. We will definitely be coming back.

Have been to this restaurant on a number of occasions this year and felt that I should write a composite review. The tasting menu here is excellent and although it looks expensive is worth every penny. I particularly enjoyed the optional cheese and port selection and if you choose to have the wine option you have the added bonus of... More

My wife & I managed to get a table on Saturday evening, having been recommended by several friends & colleagues for a speecial celebration evening, and I am delighted to say that the evening was a wonderful dining experience, which we will always remember. Having a choice of the taster menu, or the evening menu, we chose to go for... More

You must visit this restaurant! You will need to book well in advance as it probably only holds approx 30 to 40 diners. The food was absolutely gorgeous from start to finish. Al was very welcoming on arrival and all the waitresses have a good knowledge of the dishes served. The three course meal was £42 including appetisers, canapes and... More

After years of promise and excellent word of mouth recommendations we finally visited Rafters to celebrate my wife's birthday, expectation was high and we weren't disappointed. The restaurant is located in the small but compact building, nice open brickwork and funky lighting adds to the atmosphere, it was a quiet night but we got a lovely table next to the... More

Ate here for the first time in just over a year and was very impressed with the menu, the food and the service. Wonderful canapes and excellent homemade bread to start (the black pudding bread was inspired) then a two amazing starters - home smoked trout was sublime. The rest of the meal was fantastic and looked and tasted incredible.... More
