Opened in 1994 and now under the ownerships of Manager Alistair Myers and Chef Tom Lawson Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield's finest restaurants. The combination of the highly skilled & creative cooking of Tom and the kitchen team partnered with the knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed service of Alistair and the front of house team partners to make the best dining experience possible. Both brought up locally Alistair went to Tapton School where he did his work placement at the Forte Post house and has been hooked on the catering industry ever since.Leaving school at 16 to pursue his chosen career in a work based modern apprenticeship Alistair has worked in some of the best Hotels and Restaurants in Sheffield and the surrounding area learning his trade always with the ultimate ambition of opening his own restaurant one day. Tom started cooking at the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the highly regarded Sheffield College for a one week cookery course in the summer holidays whilst at High Storrs. It was this initial introduction that sparked his passion and ultimately led him back to Sheffield College where he completed his Professional Chefs diploma and was named college chef of the year. After leaving college Tom has worked at the highest level in Restaurants and Pubs in Sheffield and the surrounding area, maintaining and gaining local, regional & national recognition wherever he has cooked. Working together for the past 5 years it is the shared vision that dining is about the whole experience and not just the kitchen or dining room that brought Alistair & Tom together to embark on the journey of running their own restaurant working together as one team with the goal always being to delight and satisfy the customer.

Sunday lunch, and once more a fabulous lunch with beautiful food, beautifully presented. I can see Rafters getting a Michelin star before long, at which point we probably won't ever be able to get a reservation! Couple the food quality with comfortable seats, delightful staff and reasonably easy parking, and it's a winning combo. Only one downside for older or... More

We'd seen some good reviews so thought we'd try this place for my birthday. The restaurant was quiet (it was a Thursday) but the food was amazing. Real fine dining. The decor is lovely with comfortable seating and the service was great, very friendly. There have been a few reviews about the small portions but we weren't disappointed. We had... More

At last a restaurant in Sheffield that can call itself fine dining. My wife and I have been lucky enough to eat in several Michelin star restaurants recently and I can honestly say that the quality of cooking would match most of those restaurants, certainly surpassing those within the local area. With just a couple of slight adjustments it could... More

Thank you Alistair and your very talented chef for a wonderful celebration dinner for our son, his fiancée and our group of friends. All the courses were absolutely delicious; we enjoyed the inventive canapés, and the fresh bread rolls were to die for. We spend a lot of time in France, and have eaten in Michelin-starred restaurants, but I don't... More

Visited last night with a group of 12 friends. We all had the tasting menu, and it was easily tweaked to accommodate my nut allergy with no problems. Beautiful food, and lovely wine. Great service, not too intrusive. Will definitely be back.

First visit to Rafters in many years and was very impressed. Service was excellent, staff were polite and friendly. Unusual little appetisers then the set menu for us. The scallops were delicious and the trio of beef cooked to perfection. Mention has been made about portion sizes in previous reviews but I think they have got it spot on. They... More

The food here is excellent - well presented and a well thought out menu. Was impressed with the changes they have made to the restaurant. Only slight negative was the length of the wait between courses - perhaps five - ten minutes too long. Was a shame as we would have had a cheese course but it got a bit... More

Had the tasting menu and wine flight with friends- two of us vegetarian- a real treat to be catered for so well. We had been before but not for the full experience and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the waitresses gave great service and knew and could talk about each of the dishes they were serving.... More

This restaurant has outstanding food and attentive service. The layout is good and it has a lovely relaxed, homely and cosy atmosphere. My only criticism would be that the portions are a little small, even for a fine dining restaurant. Nevertheless; it is definitely worth a visit and we shall be back!
