Opened in 1994 and now under the ownerships of Manager Alistair Myers and Chef Tom Lawson Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield's finest restaurants. The combination of the highly skilled & creative cooking of Tom and the kitchen team partnered with the knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed service of Alistair and the front of house team partners to make the best dining experience possible. Both brought up locally Alistair went to Tapton School where he did his work placement at the Forte Post house and has been hooked on the catering industry ever since.Leaving school at 16 to pursue his chosen career in a work based modern apprenticeship Alistair has worked in some of the best Hotels and Restaurants in Sheffield and the surrounding area learning his trade always with the ultimate ambition of opening his own restaurant one day. Tom started cooking at the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the highly regarded Sheffield College for a one week cookery course in the summer holidays whilst at High Storrs. It was this initial introduction that sparked his passion and ultimately led him back to Sheffield College where he completed his Professional Chefs diploma and was named college chef of the year. After leaving college Tom has worked at the highest level in Restaurants and Pubs in Sheffield and the surrounding area, maintaining and gaining local, regional & national recognition wherever he has cooked. Working together for the past 5 years it is the shared vision that dining is about the whole experience and not just the kitchen or dining room that brought Alistair & Tom together to embark on the journey of running their own restaurant working together as one team with the goal always being to delight and satisfy the customer.

I decided to surprise my wife and booked rafters after the good reviews. From the initial booking I made with the owner Alastair to the meal it was one of the most enjoyable experiences we've had. We arrived and were seated promptly. The staff were all knowledgable, polite and attentive without being instructive. However the star of the show was... More

A first time for me and a family birthday celebration.I couldn't fault the service or the food, beautiful expectation from the plate to the taste, nothing disappointed apart from wanting more!.Knowledgable wine information without pretension, unobtrusive service when appropriate and the whole evening was made relaxed and extremely enjoyable by a very professional team, thankyou,.

What fantastic food! This was the second time I've been, the last several years ago, and it was just as amazing as I remember. It's also very good value for the seriously high standard of food - a £39 set evening menu included three courses, two canapé courses and homemade bread. The whole atmosphere and service is ideal if you... More

So went to Rafters for the first time and it had a nice feel to the place, but the service wasn't up to scratch! Terrible at taking drinks orders and ran out of the venison, not happy, especially as they had only just changed their menu that week!!!! We were celebrating my Nan's 80th birthday and it was lovely but... More

Yes I’ve been to Rafters a good few times now and that’s maybe because locally it really is my favourite restaurant. Alistair (front of house) Tom (head chef) seems to have got it pretty much spot on! Now this review is about my last two trips really, firstly I took one of my best mates (Lukey G) and his girlfriend... More

The whole experience of Rafters was impeccable! Me and my boyfriend travelled up to Sheffield for our 2 year anniversary. My boyfriend researched lots of restaurants and this came up top! He contacted them but couldn't get through , they rang straight back and were overly helpful and answered every question that was asked. The food was fantastic, I have... More
