Opened in 1994 and now under the ownerships of Manager Alistair Myers and Chef Tom Lawson Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield's finest restaurants. The combination of the highly skilled & creative cooking of Tom and the kitchen team partnered with the knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed service of Alistair and the front of house team partners to make the best dining experience possible. Both brought up locally Alistair went to Tapton School where he did his work placement at the Forte Post house and has been hooked on the catering industry ever since.Leaving school at 16 to pursue his chosen career in a work based modern apprenticeship Alistair has worked in some of the best Hotels and Restaurants in Sheffield and the surrounding area learning his trade always with the ultimate ambition of opening his own restaurant one day. Tom started cooking at the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the highly regarded Sheffield College for a one week cookery course in the summer holidays whilst at High Storrs. It was this initial introduction that sparked his passion and ultimately led him back to Sheffield College where he completed his Professional Chefs diploma and was named college chef of the year. After leaving college Tom has worked at the highest level in Restaurants and Pubs in Sheffield and the surrounding area, maintaining and gaining local, regional & national recognition wherever he has cooked. Working together for the past 5 years it is the shared vision that dining is about the whole experience and not just the kitchen or dining room that brought Alistair & Tom together to embark on the journey of running their own restaurant working together as one team with the goal always being to delight and satisfy the customer.

Great tasting menu

Another superb meal at our favourite restaurant. We tried the tasting menu for the first time, which was excellent. Each course was sublime so it's not easy to identify a favourite, although the scallops and halibut might have been front-runners. We love everything about Rafters; the intimate... read more

We had the tasting menu with matching wines. Both were superb. Stand out dishes were the scallops and halibut both perfectly cooked and balanced. Finished the evening with coffee and homemade petit fours. As good as many Michelin star restaurants we have visited. Look forward to returning in the future.

The food, setting, and service at this establishment are truly accomplished. The food is keenly priced given its unquestionable quality, and the wine list full of interest (although it is rather young: it would be nice to see some older vintages). We began with a selection of canapés which were truly excellent. An ideal start to the meal, and beautifully... More

One of the pleasures of retirement is eating out mid week when restaurants are less busy. Arriving at the restaurant @ 7.45 on a Wednesday we were surprised at the "Buzz" of conversation we could hear as we climbed the stairs. Welcomed by Alistair and shown to our table we noted that there were already only 3 tables empty, They... More

We went to a wedding here, nothing was too much trouble, accommodating all requests. We had the taster menu, everyone in the party was amazed by the food. The room is small and intimate and seemed perfect in every way

This visit made our wedding anniversary. The venue is comfortable and homely, but on the first floor, so don't drink too much! The three course lunch was absolutely delicious. There is a choice for each course, and there are canapes (lovely), pre-main course, and pre-desert dishes which were exquisite. There is a wide wine list, which some may think pricey.... More

It really is about time the good people of Michelin revisit this restaurant and do the decent thing and award Tom and Alistair a star. We had the tasting menu to celebrate my daughters graduation from University of Sheffield. The food we had was executed with perfection and given the youth of the senior team it was remarkable. Not cheap... More
