Opened in 1994 and now under the ownerships of Manager Alistair Myers and Chef Tom Lawson Rafters has long been accepted as one of Sheffield's finest restaurants. The combination of the highly skilled & creative cooking of Tom and the kitchen team partnered with the knowledgeable, friendly and relaxed service of Alistair and the front of house team partners to make the best dining experience possible. Both brought up locally Alistair went to Tapton School where he did his work placement at the Forte Post house and has been hooked on the catering industry ever since.Leaving school at 16 to pursue his chosen career in a work based modern apprenticeship Alistair has worked in some of the best Hotels and Restaurants in Sheffield and the surrounding area learning his trade always with the ultimate ambition of opening his own restaurant one day.

Tom started cooking at the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the highly regarded Sheffield College for a one week cookery course in the summer holidays whilst at High Storrs. It was this initial introduction that sparked his passion and ultimately led him back to Sheffield College where he completed his Professional Chefs diploma and was named college chef of the year. After leaving college Tom has worked at the highest level in Restaurants and Pubs in Sheffield and the surrounding area, maintaining and gaining local, regional & national recognition wherever he has cooked.

Working together for the past 5 years it is the shared vision that dining is about the whole experience and not just the kitchen or dining room that brought Alistair & Tom together to embark on the journey of running their own restaurant working together as one team with the goal always being to delight and satisfy the customer.

Visited with my husband and 7year old daughter yesterday. The food and service were both excellent. The staff were very good with my daughter, giving her small portions from the main menu and they even gave her a non alcoholic appetiser. Would highly recommend and will be returning very soon!!

We read the reviews and they are spot on. A work of art without the Michelin pricing. Lovely attention to detail, very tasty in a cool intimate atmosphere. Attentive staff when required. Short and sweet on this one, it's a fabulous dining experience. Checking the diary now in readiness for the next visit.

I decided to come here while I was in Sheffield for the evening as I'd heard that this place offered a tasting menu. Since a tasting menu usually means a higher standard of food, it was a the key factor in my decision to come here. It proved to be a good decision as every course ranged from great to... More

All that is now needed if for Alastair and tom to get their michelin star- they deserve it Waited for 2 years to go, heard good things about Tom,s cooking . Glad that innovative modern cuisine that Tom makes will hopefully get rafters and sheffield back on the michelin map 1. We tried the 8 course menu although more dishes... More

Having not been for ages I've had three meals in the last year and each time has been better than the last. It is expensive but it's good value - go for a special occasion and you won't be disappointed. Service has definitely improved since an earlier visit - less intrusive but efficient.

The very best vegetarian food i have ever tasted. I had the tasting menu, which spared nothing on creativity, taste, or attention. Every dish was unique and exquisite, and in some cases better than the meat alternative! Heaps than a vegetarian tasting menu i had at Michelin star Alimentum in Cambridge, at a fraction of the cost. Couldn't recommend it... More

Took my husband here for his birthday - exceptional service, delicious food - all the little touches like the amuse bouches and calling us a taxi at the end of the night made it an even more special night Can't wait to go back!
