A welcome break for weary folk

It had been a full on weekend, travelling for many miles, catching up with my son who had been rehearsing for 3 months, then performing at the Sheffield Hallam University Drama culminating in three nights on the trot of stamina filled performances, happily followed by the obligatory celebratory... read more

It had been a full on weekend, travelling for many miles, catching up with my son who had been rehearsing for 3 months, then performing at the Sheffield Hallam University Drama culminating in three nights on the trot of stamina filled performances, happily followed by the obligatory celebratory drinkipoos on the Saturday night, had us all rather jaded on the... I have spent a few evenings in this pub now and I am very impressed. The food is consistently good, the staff are friendly and they have a variety of craft beers on tap. It's very close to the Kenwood Hall Hotel and a very good alternative to eat and drink.

Standard thornbridge pub, nice traditional atmosphere, with a good selection of their own beers on, but overpriced for what you get.

£10 for a burger and chips - it had better be good! It wasn't. Let's start with the praise: I really liked the home-made burger patty. What a pity it was snack-sized thin rather than worth eating for dinner. It's 45 minutes since I finished and I'm hungry again! The burger was served on the cheapest bun available. The chips... We were staying in the Kenwood Hall Hotel and were recommended this pub restaurant as it was just a short walk away (given the horrid weather we drove there and left the car overnight). There were five in our party and the variety of pub food met all of our needs. The pub also has a good selection of real... More

While the beer drinkers were happy and the general ambience was good, the food was very unimpressive. It appeared to have just come out of the freezer and the chips were the weirdest things - wouldn't dash back to eat there again.

Brief version: local brewery pub with good, reasonably priced food and drink. I'd return. Like many other reviewers, we were staying at the nearby Kenwood Hall Hotel. Good hotel but we also fancied a cheaper option for evening meal! The Stag seemed worth a go... The Stag is linked to a local brewery and serves several of their beers along... More

We were staying at Kenwood hall (just around the corner) so thought we'd try it out - we were all very happy! We were in a group of 4 adults, a small baby and a 6 year old. Lots of great ale and wine to choose from. Lovely staff who seemed very attentive. Nice local crowd. The food was good... More

On a dreary Saturday my husband and I wanted a pub for lunch whilst staying at Kenwood Hall. The Stag's Head was recommended and off we set on a short walk. On entering the pub we were greeted by a friendly face behind the bar and found s table by the fire. The food was great and the service terrific.... More
