I read the other comments; we(2 people) had lovely experience. Sunday at 5.30, very quiet in upstairs restaurant. Staff attentive. I asked for iced water and glass of wine(to arrive with main course)- perfectly executed. My partner had a starter of Finnen Haddock, main courses= Boulilbaisse and Mushroom Wellington. Cannot fault attentive servers and staff in general. Lovely family atmosphere(young... More

Not been for a while and read mixed reviews - but was pleasantly surprised. Fairly quiet but it was mid week. Started off in the bar with good drinks service and comfy sofas. Good selection on menu( + a set menu for the cheaper option which none of us ordered from). Offered some yummy bread that looked like Yorkshire puds... More

My husband booked to eat here for valentines as they have a specific coeliac friendly menu. So obviously I was very excited. We had a friendly welcome and due to the size of the place had a private table where we could chat and not feel like we were overheard. I would say the decor is quite dated. We were... More

Visited here for evening meal with my parents while they were visiting me for the weekend early Feb. Food was very good and reasonable priced for the quality and portions. Varied menu but not loads to choose from. Very nice decor and ambiance with candles on every table. Friendly staff. We were sat in a raised carpet area with fireplace,... More

A good, varied menu with generous portions and everything freshly prepared. A very attractive edge of town old building with a labyrinth of different bars, rooms and passages. Very pleasant overall experience.

We booked the restaurant for Christmas day lunch for 10. 2 of the party were young children so we rang in advance to arrange their requirements. On arrival all looked good. We were late to our table as the previous party were late leaving but understood this. our orders were taken. No bread at the table as on the menu.... More

After seeing mixed reviews we didn't know what to expect but once the food started to arrive we knew our reservations we unfounded. The table service was good and all the food was nicely presented and full of flavour. We did complain about the sprouts as they were hard but they were quickly replaced and they took some money off... More

Over the past year or so we have used this restaurant and the downstairs bar many times. We preferred the previous chef team (now at Peppercorn) who aimed at (and fully satisfied) a more demanding clientele, but the current kitchen team are clearly very capable. However the quality has varied massively and the service (while pleasant) is sometimes very slow,... More

Ate here this evening, went as it has recently been taken over by the Thornbridge group. Although it was a bit quiet for a Thursday night, the staff were polite and attentive, whilst the food was excellent. We all had duck leg for starter; flavoursome! One of us had lemon and thyme chicken (massive portion) and 2 of us had... More
