From entering the door until leaving , the courtesy and service from the many staff in attendance was superb. The food was delightful, and presentation excellent. The ambiance was just right, and being taken into the bar for pre dinner drinks in which you felt was yours personally, all added to a very enjoyable evening.

Pure indulgence! Beautiful building with sumptuous interior decor & a stunning fish tank to give a view of the kitchen. From the moment we arrived & greeted at the door we were treated like royalty. Faultless service & professional staff. Food was simply devine! Beautifully presented & amazing flavours on every course . We had the champagne lunch which was... More

From the time we arrived to the time we left the whole experience was absolutely fantastic. From the service to the food, it was perhaps one of the best dining experiences that I have enjoyed. The staff are exceptionally well trained and the food was exquisite. Most definitely worth a visit as a business venue or for that special occasion.

Such a beautiful institution in restaurant terms, the bricks and mortar have been home to so many greats - apologies as I'm missing out one or more when I mention Alan Murchison, Daniel Galmiche, John Burton Race and Nico Ladenis - the latter two holding two Michelin Stars here and the former two one Michelin star each. Currently holding a... More

Over-emphasized French accents, somewhat patronising staff. Building looks good on the outside. Slight musty smell on the inside and cramped, for an expensive meal [£290 for two for three courses, one ordinary bottle of wine and two glasses of champagne]. first course of lobster excellent, lamb was ok, squab was tasteless, cheeses ok. coffee at £5.50 was small and lukewarm.... Visited a year ago and had the Menu du Jour which was very good. The M du J this time was even better, lovely presentation and taste, with good service. The price for such quality was good and I am reserving 5 stars for when I return in the future for the a la carte menu.

My friend and I decided to do a catch up lunch and chose L'ortolan simply because it was equidistant from us both. I had no idea until I booked that it was 1 Michelin starred. But wow, do I now! The restaurant is set in a Georgian house, but is trendy and chic inside. I was treated like royalty from... More

You are hardly spoilt for choice in the Reading area for a fine dining experience, so i always find myself returning here when i am entertaining a client. The weather was kind , we sat in the garden for pre drinks, service was attentive, two gin and tonics of the highest standard, Tanquary 10, fever tree tonic, lime sliver and... More

We chose l'Ortolan for one of our dinners in the English countryside for two reasons: its one Michelin star and its proximity to our country hotel. We hit the jackpot with this delightful restaurant. Our evening was filled with delightful surprises, from the sleek modern décor wrapped in an atmospheric old tavern shell, to the knowledgeable sommelier who led us... More
