Beautiful setting in an old vicarage with a lovely peaceful atmosphere, excellent service by obviously well trained staff, amazing food which is why it has a Michelin star. A meal to remember.

Four of us drop in now and then when we need an up market experience--we were not disappointed---a seven course Gourmet Menu satisfied all our culinary wishes and the wine with each course was a very good choice. Staff were friendly and professional. As usual the food was a delight--loved the duck and the skate and the Sommelier new his... More

There is no point in writing another detailed review - two words: absolutely superb! If you want the ultimate gastronomic experience, then look no further. Our treat for the year again (as we also visited last year). We never thought it could beat our experience 6 months prior, but it did. Consistently Superb!

L'Ortolan is simply the best restaurant in Reading. The food and service are just better than anywhere else locally. It is not cheap but for special occasions it is worth it.

L'Ortolan is but a 5 minute walk from our home in the adjoining village of Three Mile Cross - Andrea ( my wife ) arranged the dinner as a belated valentines "date" Despite living in the area for a number of years this was our 1st visit - The welcome we received from the staff the perfect start to the... We decided to have a lunch-time celebration for our friends' recent engagement and weren't disappointed: the food and variety for each course was excellent and beautifully presented by courteous and smartly-dressed staff who described each plate on presentation at the table. Food and drinks were therefore expensive but in view of the attention to detail for every part of the... More

The service, food and aesthetics of L'Ortolan are terrific. Getting there is a different matter. On approaching L'Ortolan you enter a housing estate and suddenly the place appears. Once in the car park the atmosphere changes and you will not find a better meal in or around Reading.

The set lunch we had here was one of the best meals we've ever had in the greater Reading area. The courses and pre-courses were all prepared with panache and served by an unfailingly polite and attentive staff, many of whom were Eastern European, a great advertisement for immigration. Although each part of the meal by itself was on the... More
