Beautiful setting, excellent service

Went for a work meal with quite a big group. We first had cocktails and amuse bouches downstairs which was nice. We then went upstairs to our private dining room. The service was pleasant and efficient. Portions were sometimes a bit too small (only two very small scallops for the starter for... read more

Me and my partner came here with my dad and his partner for a joint birthday celebration. The restaurant location and surroundings are beautiful. Once inside the restaurant is again beautiful, decorated in a modern fashion. We were taken to the conservatory area where we had a drink and pre appetisers, which were amazing, very well presented and full of... More

The location and surroundings are excellent. The service was brilliant, as was the food. All in all, well priced for the standard achieved. Could do with a little update as it is looking a bit tired. The bar is well stocked with good whiskey and champagne.

We loved ever moment, spontaneous Wednesday night out, super service, fabulous decor warm welcome and non-intrusive service. The food was out of this world, we grazed 7 courses over 2 hours and enjoyed every moment.

Just back from lunch at L'Ortolan to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. We had the Chef's table which was amazing. Great experience to sit in the pass and watch the food being prepared and presented. We had seven delicious courses, each one a work of art and Tom the chef explained how the kitchen operated and what was in each... More

We've often driven past the signs for the L'Ortolan on the way into Reading from Basingstoke and thought we'd give it a go. There was a certain reluctance as previously when we've chosen to have a 'special' meal locally we've gone to The Vineyard over at Newbury. However, we visited the L'Ortolan on Valentine's Day and opted for the set... More

We went for lunch for a friend's birthday at L'Ortolan having not been for a few years. They had a special set price menu for Rhone Valley wines and food which included a glass of wine. The food was delicious with many extras like nibbles with the pre-dinner drinks, and amuse bouche and a pre-dessert. The advice on sommelier was... More

We have visited L'Ortolan a few times, but this was our first experience at The Chef's Table. What a fantastic evening. After being introduced to the Sommelier, served champagne & canapes, we were led through to the kitchen to meet head Chef Tom and his staff. We were presented with 12 courses and 10 different wines, each of which was... More

A late Valentine lunch with my husband with no disappointments. We choose the from the set lunch menu which offered canapés, amuse bouche, and pre dessert - dessert within the very reasonably priced menu. All courses were exceptionally presented and served. The flavours were intense & delicious. The staff were were very attentive without being formally overbearing. A Tuesday lunchtime... More
