We haven’t been in the Black Boy for quite a few years and was pleasantly surprised by the changes to the whole place. We were meeting with family for Sunday lunch, an extensive menu with an additional specials board gave enough choice, my first impression was the prices seemed a bit high compared to other local pub type restaurants but... Made my first visit here with a friend and we ate in the restaurant (food available in the bar). We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table which was by the kitchen entrance. Our waiter picked up on the look exchanged between us and quickly asked us if we would prefer a different table - we did and thank... More

we met up with friends for a Sunday lunchtime drink. We were there quite early (noon) and the car park was already quite full. Reservations are recommended (it was hard to find a table that wasn't reserved). The food looked great. We will go back for lunch next time. Nice pub, friendly staff, quite busy - do get there early!

Went yesterday with close friends for a birthday celebratory lunch. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was just what you would expect from a local. Tasty, good value for money, plenty of it and a 25% discount for dining in January. Very busy, which is always a good sign! Definitely will return.

Arrived at 12.15 on a busy Friday lunchtime. Immediately served with drinks and asked what food we'd like. Served within 15 minutes. Friendly waitress who came back to check if everything was ok. Both had warm bacon and duck salad which was delicious and chips which were piping hot. Would definitely go back.

The kitchen shuts at 2.30. Prompt. Even just 4 minutes after. So just sit in the bar and see if you can hear yourself think over the noise of the cutlery being dried and put back in the trays after lunch. There must have been a lot of lunches as there was a lot of cutlery to manage. Still, it... More

We ate here during the xmas period with friends. It was very busy but that didn't affect the service or food at all. Had Camembert to start which was yummy then pork roast as a main, it was a massive portion but was so tasty, with the crackling done to perfection! Will be back again.

Booked months in advance for a family dinner on Christmas eve.Paid a hefty deposit at the time.We were disappointed with the food and the drinks were very expensive.Considering we were in a pub the total bill was very expensive. Also when the bill came the right amount of deposit had not been taken off but luckily we had the receipt for... I love this pub and come here regularly. The food is great especially the mushroom and goats cheese burger :). The indoor area is segmented into "bar" area and "restaurant" area, we seem to have an issue with service every time we sit in the restaurant area, however when in the bar area we have no complaints.
