We booked for the highly talked about 'Last Night of the Proms' evening. WOW!!! What a lot of hard work the landlords and staff had put in. Met by tuxedo clad, fabulous looking staff and was escorted to tables in the beautifully decorated marquee . We had wonderful conductor to lead the singing and entertainment, then enjoyed a traditional British... More

Best kept secret in the area. Fresh and varied menus, great steak, lovely ambience - a real gastro pub!

disappointing visit for our wedding anniversary. For the price expected high quality meals but was bland and average. Fish pie lacked sauce, was very stodgy. The share and tear bread starter looked like par baked rolls from tescos. Didn't bother staying for dessert. Won't be returning.

We had fabulous sunday roasts here today. Great beef. Even better lamb. Wonderful staff - they are extremely helpful. Lots of extra gravy provided which is good for us. Lovely veg (a mix of carrots, leeks and broccoli). Nice cheeseboard too. You need to book in advance otherwise you may be turned away. It's not cheap but it is quality.... More

I took a colleague who was staying in nearby Wokefield park out here for dinner one evening. When we arrived the restaurant was half full and had a warm atmosphere with fires lit. Decor is nice and a little quirky. The barman/waiter was very friendly and helpful and really made us feel welcome. The food was great - had venison... More

Shame we read the reviews and thought 12 half miles was not a bad distanced to cycle on a sunday afternoon and try this pub. It wasn't particularly busy but we were turned away and told there weren't any tables available at 3pm and they did say serving all day. Shame as we were not even invited to stay for... More

I've been here twice recently, once for dinner (the night before my wedding!!) and once for a family lunch. The dinner asvalways was fantastic. As it was a special occassion, I had my favorite dinner here, the Beef Wellington, which as always was fantastic. a top tip though - if you're having the Wellington, dont have the Pate to start... Popped in on Friday for a bit of lunch. Unfortunately out of chicken so Ceasar Salad off menu. So we went for the duck, fish pie and fish n chips. For lunch food simply excellent, we sat in garden and a young lady was looking after us. Brilliant service. Continues to be one of the best places to eat between... More

We arrived here without booking and, despite the fact that they had lots of reservations, they kindly managed to find us a table. The decor is really nice and makes you feel like you are sat in someone's dining room rather than in a pub. The sunday lunch of roast beef was lovely - and the accompanying gravy was fabulous.... We came here as a family and had a wonderful meal. We sat out in the garden and had table service. The children loved running around looking at the chickens and playing with the giant chess set. In the winter they have some lovely cosy tables with a few games to play for example mini jenga and dominoes. They do... More
