Ethiopian Lunch platter is a great alternative to pub grub.

This was an unexpected treat on a trip into Reading, I didn't expect to sample a cuisine from an African country. Ethiopian Lunch platter was £5.80 consisting of an Injera (a pancake) and 2 dishes. I had the Ethiopian national dish, Doro Wot (chicken in a spicy sauce) and spinach, very tasty... read more

Tutu is a friendly happy host every day, but especially at her Thursday evening buffet in the Global Cafe. Her meals build on the injera (a kind of pancake), to which you can add rice and a range of beautifully spiced meats and vegetables. No greasy burgers or chips here! Just genuinely great Ethiopian dishes. I was assured that everything... More

I've been getting so, so bored of Reading and the bland, commercial "bars" that offer over priced cheap drinks to Reading's underdressed youth (oh man, do I sound old now!) Anyway, a friend recommend I try this place, and I have to say I've been meaning to try it for the last decade, so now is as good a time... More

We had never experienced Ethiopian food before, and I was curious after hearing a radio programme about the subject. We went on a Thursday night, when there is a buffet run with six options plus rice and bread, all for £10.95 a head, and return for more if you wish at no extra cost. Much of the food is vegetarian,... More

Spent a pleasant and fun evening in this unusual laid back venue. Really friendly welcome, great selection of local and not so local bottled beers as well as coffee and snacks. The advertised Ethiopian food looked worth while. There is a full program of live music and DJs to keep you entertained. We enjoyed a lively band and we're still... More

Came here with my partner (who is both wheat & dairy intolerant) with high hopes. General ambience was fine; staff were friendly and accommodating, but I'm afraid the meat burger I had was a huge let down - low quality meat that was chewy/rubbery with practically every bite. Shame really, as I quite like supporting restaurants that are not pretentious... More

I am a huge fan of Ethiopian food, having had it many times in Germany. The food here is slightly less good quality to that which I've had before, but it is what I assume would be closer to homemade food as opposed to restaurant-style swanky meals. I highly recommend people getting the vegetarian platter. Even if you like meat,... More
