Good food, but sort out the cleaniness!

We had a quick dinner here at the weekend before the theatre. Food was good, but we felt the whole place could do with a proper clean, especially the loos! As we ate early on Sunday evening it was lacking in atmosphere but I imagine it comes alive at night time when there are more people there.

First impression: it was very empty for a Saturday lunchtime - not a good sign. The staff were not very friendly and somewhat impatient. The food was hot, but my mashed potato looked reheated as it had a slight crust on the outside, and appeared to have been served with an ice cream scoop. The portions were not very generous... More

We went to Cafe Rouge as a group of 50, as we were part of a conference, and were put in the room at the back, so we had the space to ourselves. The food was delicious, everything was brought out at the same time and the staff were friendly. They remembered those with dietary requirements each time.

The first time was for dinner. Ribeye steak actually rare and tasty, with a generous salad endowed with very good dressing. Full English breakfasts on two-for-one coupon were also quite good - eggs scrambled nicely and all the usual accompaniments. Even the coffee was acceptable - not so easy to find in Europe. Returned for another dinner and subsequent breakfast... More

we visited on a Saturday evening and actually wanted to go to Pierre Victoire next door but it was fully booked, so thought we'd give this place a try. We was seated promptly as the place was half empty and at a glance the place looked a mess. We ordered drinks and the white wine wasn't even cold and when... More

Cafe Rouge is located in a quiet side street and has the atmosphere of a French bistro. The menu is reasonably varied and has a choice of small and large plates. We opted to start with a sharing plate for two with some charcuterie, paté, assorted condiments and bread. The contents were delicious and, as with many sharing plates, the... More

Wandered in and was pleasantly surprised there was a garden at the back. As it was a warm evening decided to dine outside however there were some children running around until eventually another diner informed their parents who were sat inside. If we had seen this before we seated, we would have probably have left. The waiter was very abrupt... More

I have been to Cafe Rouge on Little Clarendon Street twice now and each time was better than the last. The first time I had their steak & frites. I asked for the steak rare and they cooked it to perfection. The second time I had their salmon nicoise salad. It was absolutely beautiful with melt-in-the-mouth salmon, tasty olives, new... More

My children booked a 'surprise' lunch for Mother's Day. On arrival the restaurant looked a little dark but there was plenty of seating and although quiet when we arrived (12.45) it soon got busier. The service was prompt and polite and the meal was faultless. There was a complimentary glass of champagne for the Mum and we all agreed it... More

The restaurant was fairly empty at 6.30 and I was disappointed that we were seated beside a table with 2 very excitable little girls. I love children but these were very loud. They finished their meal and ran up and down the entire length of the restaurant for the next hour. My own children were not enjoying the noise but... More
