Great place to eat

Excellent menu, tasty food, good choice of wine, and attentive service. Only somewhat spoilt by three loud mouthed women at the next table endlessly jabbering on about Waitrose offers and other suchlike trivia. When they left an audible cheer went up from the other diners.

Although it was only 6pm on Saturday the place was really buzzing and we only just managed to get a table as we hadn't booked. Both the decor and the staff reminded us of restaurants we had visited in France. The waiter gave us some helpful recommendations which turned out to be delicious. Everything was beautifully presented and the wine... More

We booked at Pierre Victoire because it had been so highly recommended on Tripadvisor. On arrival at 5.50, Friday, there was a queue of people waiting for the 6.00 opening. Within minutes the downstairs area was almost full. The service was friendly and the food was excellent, as expected. The prix fixe menu suited us as after a day's sightseeing... More

You get an appetizer and main for 11.50 pounds--great deal! We had the fried whiting appetizer and the duck confit main. Both were superb. The duck in particular was impressive--it was a good-sized portion, the skin was wonderfully crispy, and the flavour was divine. It came with a raspberry sauce that wasn't overpowering at all and a crispy potato thing... More

Unpretencious, menu changes regularly and great atmosphere inexpensive by Oxford standards. One of the best places to eat in the city. Absolutely essential to book weekends.

We stumbled upon Pierre Victoire whilst staying in Oxford for a few days and were very pleased with the food and service there. This is a lovely cosy little bistro with a warm buzzy atmosphere. The food is exceptionally good. We both had fish dishes and they were incredibly flavoursome: the salmon had fantastically fresh clean flavours of ginger and... More

This is a delightful restaurant that feels cozy yet has 3 floors! The staff is experienced and many locals eat here. The food was french but not overly "saucy." I had a lovely peasant vegetable soup for a starter and somehow managed to eat my lovely monkfish wrapped in proscuitto and atop a risotto cooked perfectly and topped with crab.... More

For our 44th wedding anniversary lunch we automatically chose Pierre Victoire - so reliable, so to our taste. My wife had the wonderful whitebait for her starter whilst I chose the duck and chicken terrine (lovely tarragon herby layer running through it), We both chose the seafood tagliatelle for main and the sublime mousse au chocolat for dessert. I did... More
