The food is great and the staff very friendly. It gets very busy though, so reserve a table early and don't be surprised if it is quite load and crammed

Chiang Mai is located in a building which was built several hundred year ago. The entrance is on a small passageway off High Street. To get to the main dining rooms which are upstairs, one must climb up a very old wooden staircase. There is one small dining room on the ground floor. I did not see any sign for... More

Chiang Mai kitchen is indeed excellent and reflecting that you really do need to book a table! I do think it is slightly on the expensive and I would recommend if you are after some cheap but good Thai food to check out Old Tom - on St. Aldates right across from the enterence to Christ Church. :)

We managed to get a table on a busy Saturday with no reservation. We sat downstairs right at the back, turns out the toilet doors are right behind! Other than people coming and going near you this isnt noticeable. The food was good as was the service.

Recommended by a colleague and just as good as he said. A beautiful Tudor building, elephants amongst the decorations, great service and absolutely superb food. Not too expensive, either. What more could you ask?

Like others, we just got tired of eating the typical British fare for food. So our thought was why not take advantage of the great ethic culinary diversity while in Oxford? We had this place recommend to us by someone who eats Thai food regularly. Our take? Excellent? First of all, when you have to walk into an old dingy... More

Came here on my first night in Oxford upon a recommendation from a colleague. The restaurant is very centrally located on High St. I was seated quickly and the waiter provided great recommendations as I am not familiar with Thai food and require gluten free meals. The food came out extremely quickly and was delicious (I had the green curry... More

After a few weeks vacation in England, the Cornish Pasties and meat pies were beginning to lose some of their appeal. We were strolling through Oxford and happened upon this restaurant located down an alley in a building that looked even older than its 600 years. Nevertheless the rooms had charm, were comfortable and the menu was varied. The local... More

Visited Chiang Mai on a day trip to Oxford, went in @1630-1700 and were the only people in there, hence only an average for atmosphere, although we did realise they were fully booked for that evening. The service was excellent but not intrusive and food served quickly. Although not experts on Thai food, it was lovely and we would have... More
