One of the cosiest pubs in Oxford. When it comes to Oxford pubs The Royal Oak is the genuine article. Much like our well-kept real ales and impressive range of world beers, wines and spirits, our interiors are drenched in class, character and a dash of urban cool, with lots of rooms and cosy little corners to kick back in. It's just the place to enjoy a plate of seriously good pub food.

Went with a party of 10. We ordered in 3 lots but pretty much at the same time to the same table number. Food came out about 20minutes apart each so last lot wait for v long time for their food. Pay before you eat so nothing offered when we complained. Not even a smile or apology. Food that did... More

Lots of seating inside and out but not rammed packed when I visited. Had a couple of beers and a pork and chorizo burger which was the best burger I have eaten. The staff are friendly, are prompt and efficient in their service so winter or summer I would recommend to anybody. But... Don't take my word for it, try... More

Found the Royal Oak by chance and boy was that lucky. Really polite and helpful staff and an excellent evening menu to chose a meal. The food was really good and excellent sized portions will be returning here when in Oxford again.

Good food served by pleasant servers who were keen to assist us with allergies. This is a very old pub ( 1750 AD ) that is worth a visit. They serve Australian wines! It is on the expensive side, which for a student town I found surprising however. The roast of the day was huge.

I've been to the Royal Oak a handful of times and always enjoyed my visits, however on this occasion we were served by a snide, sarcastic and downright rude waiter. He made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, with a series of snarky remarks and jokes at our expense. Hands down worst service I've ever had! The food was excellent, there... More

One of the nicest pubs in Oxford. Rambling, good ale and good food. On the Banbury Road, beyond Physics Dept.

I have been to The Royal Oak a number of times. I particularly enjoy the Southern Fried Chicken which comes with good pickle dip. They also do good burgers and a drink for £9 on Wednesday night. The quiz runs every Monday and is usually pretty good. The beer selection is pretty good although could do with some more variety... More

Thanks for the great review of our food and quiz. We try to rotate our ales with around 10 guest ales a month - sometimes more. If you follow us on facebook or twitter we oftern update what ales are on sale. We also use the perfect pint ap to let people know what ales we are doing. We will... More

A good student hang out, only problem was that on a saturday night the 2 real ales we were drinking ran out after the first pint, but were good while they lasted. Food looked typical pub food, nothing special.

Very good beer, friendly staff, pleasant decor. Perhaps the kitchen was understaffed because most of the food when it finally arrived was dried out and overcooked. My son said his chorizo starter was good but the whitebait had been in the fried too long. Mac cheese went down well but gammon was dessicated and sausage and mash inedible.
