Description: A celebration of food and wine alongside art and culture. The Ashmolean Dining Room provides the spectacular setting for Oxford's first and finest rooftop restaurant. We have a fantastic new menu taking the food back to a good, hearty British feel with a European twist. As the subject of gastronomy dictates, we have dedicated this menu to the art of good eating with introductions of rabbit and monkfish tail as well as treating you to a sublime bream dish and lamb rump to die for. Vegetarians will be left drooling for our pearl barley dish and cauliflower salad. And, what better way to top it off, but with our Paris Brest dessert. Ingredients are fresh and seasonal and we use many local Oxfordshire suppliers to bring the best quality to you. Our wine list is broad with 50 handpicked wines from around the world.

This was one of the best meals I have ever had in a restaurant. The attention to detail was sublime.

I absolutely adore this place- it's location is full of romance and it is a haven from the crowds of the town. I enjoyed an absolutely delicious lunch recently and then went back for tea and cake with my daughters- both times the service was friendly and efficient and the food delicious and not overpriced. It makes such a change... More

The food is expensive and fairly bland! unless you can sit outside, which is not possible for considerable parts of the year the space is not at all exciting and for this amount of money you get much better food in Oxford.

Saturday lunch - my 3rd visit to this restaurant in 2 years, 1st time sitting outside. Service and food have improved since summer 2012 when both were indifferent, rather than bad. It caters for large numbers, specially when exhibitions are on (or, as last weekend, graduation ceremonies) and seemed to match the number of staff to demand. Menu was not... More

Beautiful location with lovely outdoor area commanding great views of the city. However we had to track down someone to give us a menu even though they knew we were there, then had to find them again to give order. they could not even be bothered to come to the table to take our money. The prices are quite high... More

Sometimes you just want a little something to nibble on but not a huge meal. Something to munch on whilst you read a book or chat to friends. This place is for you. Tasty food in things like pate or cheese plate. Cheery surroundings looking out across the rooftops. Unobtrusive but prompt service. Delightful

We went here for lunch on a beautiful sunny afternoon. The service was excellent - attentive (e.g. bringing a fresh bottle of water as soon as the previous one was emptied) and courteous. The food was very good although not the cheapest. I will definitely be going back.

I'm surprised by the degree of negative feedback on the Dining Room, and just wanted to say how much my friends and I enjoyed our visit in mid June. We went to the Cezanne exhibition followed by a visit to the other picture galleries, then went to the Restaurant for Sunday lunch. Everything about the lunch was perfect, from the... More

Great location, very good meet and greet. Menu is great, food was very good (good options for vegetarians) but service changed half way through the meal and made an excellent experience into an average at best one. I'd started the evening really enthused by the great welcome we got and ended the meal vowing never to come back. That's a... More

We went to the Ashmolean Museum Oxford on the last day of the Cezanne exhibition and went up to the rooftop restaurant for coffee and cakes afterwards. The exhibition was good the restaurant experience poor. There were only 6 people on the terrace when we sat down and our orders of coffee and cake were taken promptly. The coffee arrived... More

Thanks for your feedback. It is always a very useful training aid for us in training our teams to go through positive and negative feedback. There are elements of our service which need working on and we are making improvements every day. We sell coffee in 7oz cups because we are predominantly a restaurant and find that when having a...
