Too unpredictable

Like other reviewers I have found the service to be slow nearly every time I have eaten there. Getting a waiter's or waitress's attention, waiting for menu/ bill etc. I have also been too forgiving of the general shabbiness of the place. The only thing that impressed me was the food but that's now... read more

Horrible service, very uneducated staff. If you want to give your money to arrogant people who doesn't care about customer.

We were looking forward to our visit to The Magdalen Arms having been very fond of Anchor & Hope and Great Queen Street when we lived in London. The Oxford outpost has got a similar vibe: characterful verging on scruffy mismatched wooden furniture with dark painted walls - aubergine or oxblood, perhaps, and low lighting - a combination that on... This a wonderful place, either to ear or just have a few drinks in. We went on Saturday afternoon as a big-ish party; 9 adults, 1 baby, 1 hyper 3 year old. Most of us just had drinks, but some people had tapas, and others had pudding. We had a brilliant time. It’s so informal and welcoming, and the beauty... More

Admittedly, the food on our table received mixed responses. The Tagliatelle was rather bland and overpriced and the lemon sole was burnt. However, the roast potatoes were good and the roast beef acceptable. Nevertheless, having to wait an hour for food and pay for bringing in a birthday cake combined with the already high prices made the experience disappointing given... More

Third time we’ve eaten here in as many years and once again we were not disappointed. We hadn’t booked, but being midweek managed to find a table. Food was excellent and we always like the fact that the menu is a bit more quirky and different to your run-of-the-mill pub. We had the pollock and lamb shank, both lovely, while... More

This is one of my locals and usually we tend to go for a few drinks and the place is packed. I happened to go in on a friday afternoon and was pleasantly surprise how quiet it was, decided to stay and have some lunch. I was greeted by the lovely hattie, who was very helpful and happy to advise... More

We were a group of 10 people celebrating my daughters birthday and went on Sunday 15th February. The pub is a bustling and noisy environment with all ages, young people and families. It was packed to the rafters when we arrived, but luckily we had booked, and they were easily able to accommodate our party of 10 and there were... More

One of the better fancier pubs in the area. Expensive food although delicious. Nice vibe to meet friends. Good in winter.

The magdalen arms is now a really nice mix of pub and restaurant. There is a good wine list and the food is exceptional. I have been many times an had different dishes, including the shoulder of lamb that will feed a family - beautifully cooked and tasty. Sometimes service in the restaurant can be a bit slow but this... More
