We visited the pub with friends; three couples. The food was served in good time and the staff were friendly, however the food was distinctly average in flavour, good presentation does not make it taste good! We will not be returning, expensive and average for the food but the service was good.

I was visiting friends locally and arranged to meet them at the bear. I travelled from Lancashire with my 2 children aged 9 and 6. Everything about our visit was fantastic. A very well decorated restaurant and bar which is very tasteful. On arrival we received a very warm welcome and were made to feel at home. A very good... More

This place is amazing, a real hidden gem. Can't praise it enough, the staff are friendly, attentive and enthusiastic. From the moment we checked in we were extremely well looked after. Parts of the building date back to 1554 and the old bar is beautiful, with its old dark woodwork and stone flooring. The restaurant and hotel area have been... More

We traveled here for a long weekend and it was bliss. We had a very warm welcome. Our bags were carried to our room which was on the first floor up a rickety staircase. So much character! We stayed in a room above the bar but it was very tranquil. The room was lovely and spacious. The bed was very... More

After a trying and tiring journey, we stumbled across The Bear and Ragged Staff. The venue was welcoming and tidy. The service was attentive and we were shown to a table very quickly. The lunchtime menu was good but perhaps not as extensive as you would expect, there were not many light lunch options. We both ordered cheddar and tomato... More

We have visited this restaurant on a few occasions now and the food is always very well cooked and presented. The service is excellent and despite being in a very large party last time we visited the quality of the food and service did not falter. If you are looking for a lovely little pub to eat in Oxford then... More

At first glance, it doesn't look fit for campers, especially those visiting from the wrong shade of blue when it comes to boat races. It's a bit posh, and full of shirt and trouser clad local chaps, with partners in summery dresses. My shorts and flat cap felt incongruous, and the grass stains on my companion's jeans told the wrong... More

Good beer and wine selection. Great menu selection, although found the lamb a little pricey for what you got. A great meal and fantastic breakfast.
