Relaxed atmosphere, great food

We were a group of 14 for a family meal. I emailed half a dozen times as various details of our booking changed. The staff were always prompt, helpful and patient in replying (thanks!) The table was laid as I (fussily) asked for. The food was delivered according to my (precise) timetable. And... read more

We enjoyed a lovely evening at the Bear and Ragged staff as a celebration for my wife's birthday. The Bear is situated within 15 minutes drive of Oxford and has some rooms available as well although we stayed in Sabine Barn (see other review) which was great and well worth a booking as well! We sat in the main restaurant... More

The Bear and Ragged Staff is situated in Cumnor, well worth the easy15 minute drive out of Oxford. The dining room is pleasant with a relaxed athmosphere; there is a nice comfortable bar area if you need to wait for a table. The service is friendly and informative. All dishes are nicely presented. We had «tapas» style entrées: squid, fishcakes,... More

I went late last year with my partner for an evening meal and we selected the lamb. It was not only small in portion, very small, but was grisly and fatty. We complained and got a change and a free coffee but the night was ruined as we waited for replacement for what was poor in the first place.

We visited here at the end of May as we were staying in the campsite nearby. On looking at the menu I thought this was going to be expensive pub food. I couldn't have been more wrong. The food was spectacularly good. We had a sharing meat platter followed by the cod & risotto and the chicken with leek &... More

The food here is stunning. Our evening meal was sublime and also our full English in the morning was very good too. Service from staff was excellent and the room was lovely. We were lucky enough to have room 8 which was essentially a top floor flat. Lovely period features such as old beams, wooden doors and winding staircase. The... More

We were looking forward to a Sunday roast at an old English pub in a beautiful village. In short, the two servings of roast lamb were inedible and may have been verging on unsafe to eat. Worse still whoever put the meat onto the plate must have known as the meat looked congealed and tasted like nothing on earth. Ok... More

I've eaten here a few times before - each time was good although the service was a bit "random". Stopped in for breakfast this morning and it was a reasonable effort, although it was a little overcooked, and they did seem perhaps a little understaffed. At the end of the day its an off peak Tuesday morning so nothing really... More
