The Chef Peking closed down weeks ago and has been replaced by a Portuguese restaurant called 'The Square'. Contrary to what a previous reviewer has said, Pat Val is next door.

I've had some good dishes here and some pretty poor dishes. Choose wisely from the menu would be my advice. There are consistently better places to eat in Henley.

We were surprised to see that we were the only customers but it soon became evident why... the menu was dirty, the chairs were dirty and some prawn crackers were set before us that smelled of stale oil, that smell which is like it has been used and poured back into the bottle lots of times. I feigned a phone... More

Turned up after a day walking around henley taking in the sights in the poor weather, all we wanted was a warm relaxing meal before heading off. What we ended up with was a greeting like we shouldn't have put them out with a series of facial expressions that wouldn't go a miss in a funeral parlour. The menu was... More

I went to this restaurant a few years ago, and thought it was fantastic, but my most recent visit was unimpressive. There was nothing really wrong with the food, but the portions were a little small and given that we had gone for the 'let us decide for you' option, there was no dish that really stood out. The building... More

It used to be good, but now rather tired. Jill Snapes review sums it up. No way to dry your hands in the gents. The menus were thrown on to the table rather than passed to one of us Probably won't go back after many years

When writing these reviews, it seems fair to try to take a fully balanced view and consider all the pertinent factors, including price, location, etc. These days, expectations can be high. From my experience, Chef Peking in Henley on Thames consistently delivers good quality 'traditional' Chinese food with friendly and efficient service. They serve all the classics such as crispy... I though these places had disappeared but, no, this one keeps lumbering on. Fair play, some people like it but I wasn't one. They need to shake themselves up a bit. Friendly enough staff but the chef needs a refresher course

We have visted this restaurant many times and found it to be excellent. Something has gone sadly wrong. We visited on a Saturday night and again it was fairly full but we will not be returning. The service was slow and without a smile and the food cold and very greasy. The staff that were there seemed to be concentrating... More

I don't know why people still go here, apart from the location. The restaurant (room) is tired and in need of renovation, just like the staff. I ordered 4 different dishes, all were greasy and unappealing (including the soup). This place has no direction and doesn't seem to care. Just Rubbish!
