We came in here as friends had recommended it and were not disappointed. The place was busy but there were some places to sit. Most importantly the selection and quality of beers was excellent. I wish we had stayed all evening rather than having to rush off to an average curry.

You don't tend to eat in your local boozer, but tonight I did as I was meeting an old friend whom I haven't seen in 20 years who was passing thro the area. Terry the Chef probably has been at The Chequers now for about a year and has utterly transformed the place. This is not (fortunately) a gastro pub... More

This used to be my hubby's local (only 3 miles away fron his then home!) when he lived in Oxfordshire. We decided to have lunch there recently. Bit of a wait for the food, but it was ok in the end. Rissotto was huge and not too bad tasting. Not piping hot. Halloumi salad was delicious. Hubby's roast was nice... More

Roast pork, stuffing and all the trimmings. Sounds simple doesn't but actually it takes rather a lot of skill to keep the punters happy and serve up a perfect plateful of food. This lovely old pub has very friendly staff,a commendable dog-friendly attitude that extended to bowl of water and no less than 3 dog biscuits! And the food was... More

We have visited this place many times and like it very much. It is a lovely old pub in the town centre, next to the small theatre. The menus have changed over the years but the food remains of consistently high quality and is good value. One can sit at a table in the bar area, or in a very... More

This used to be our favourite pub in Chippy until we saw one of the bar staff attack another customer. We haven't been back since...

I find it hard to believe that any of my staff would have attacked a customer. If you would like to tell me when and in which situation this occurred I will look into it. My e-mail address is available via my web-site More

Always a good selection of real ales, which have been properly kept. Haven't eaten there for a while but the food that gets brought out looks good, as does the menu. Great place to relax, especially next to the log fire in the winter.

Looking at previous review we were a little wary of the food as some were up and down. However no need to be as the food was absolutely excellent. We enjoyed it so much we came back and had the same the next evening. Completely welcoming and friendly bar manager and his lady duo. They even offered to give us... More

My husband and I randomly walked in for dinner and a beer on our way to Longborough and were pleasantly surprised by the delicious food and cozy atmosphere. Definitely a locals spot, everyone was friendly and the food was a treat. Will definitely go out of my way to come again.
