Good family re-union dinner!

Good quality restaurant with a good ambience. You can have a drink in the Pub first before being seated in a semi-formal restaurant. Ran out of cider (or too lazy to change the keg?) but they have a good HH and although menu is limited the food is of good quality.

We booked a table here for Sunday lunch after a family visit to the pantomime at the theatre right next door. We received a friendly welcome and were given an excellent table in a window seat in one of the rooms leading off the bar (as I'd requested) but right away we noticed that the table was FILTHY. The log... More

The first problem was that we encountered was that we were seated in a dimly lit corner where to read the menus we had to use the torches on our phones. We asked to move to the restaurant area rather than that of the bar and were surprised to find it completely empty, given that we had reserved prior to... More

Good range of ales, very tasty bar food and good coffee. Grab one of the cosy window seats, the tables by the fire are the best.

My wife and I have lunched here 4 or 5 times in the last couple of years. We took lunch here again today. The ambiance is Old School pub with plenty of cask ales and a log fire. The food is excellent quality bistro-pub fare and good value for money. We took grilled halloumi with salad and whitebait with a... More

Been here a few times . It's a 30 minute drive for us to get to this pub , but for a pint or a great meal, this place is absolutely worth it Charming country with a shabby chic slant this is a really cozy inviting place. Always busy so book ahead if you want to eat , but relaxed... More

The Chequers is a great pub with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The bar staff is very attentive and Jim the landlord is very engaging and a pleasure to talk to. There are various "bot holds" around the pub which makes it either very social or very interment. I've be to a number of parties there, and they have all... More

Great food and lovely bar staff. Very friendly and accommodating, and the beer is fantastic to boot. Try a London Pride in here, its the best you'll get!

If you're visiting the area, like we were, I'd advise you to avoid the more expensive "chic" eateries in the area and pop down to this welcoming local pub. We had our best meal here on our three day trip and it was well cooked and great value for money. It is reassuring to hear local people sitting near to... More
